Magnolia Background – Rachel Vass Designs August 2020

Hey Crafty People!

I’m excited to share the latest release from Rachel Vass Designs; I am her Guest Designer for the month of August.

This week we have this gorgeous Magnolia background which I printed onto my usual go to; Neenah 80lb.

I originally intended to make my Magnolias all white, but after a quick Google search threw up all these gorgeous images of flowers with pink at the petal base and fading up to white, I decided that was the one I would colour!

I used R20 to add the pink, concentrating the bulk of the colour to the base of the petals, allowing it to fade as I moved up each petal. To add shadow, and also to tone down the pink a little I added some Warm Grey 1.

I coloured the branches and leaves really simply, just using two colours so that I could add some shadow and depth.

I trimmed this coloured panel down and added it to a dark teal card panel. I edged it with some very thin silver glitter stock (a la Jennifer McGuire!) I wanted to incorporate the pink from the flowers elsewhere in my design, so I coloured the edge of another card panel with the same combination of pink and warm grey so that it would perfectly match the flowers, then layered this behind the teal panel.

For my sentiment, I printed one of the ones that come with the release and used my laminator to add silver foil to it.

I finished the designs by popping the panel up on foam tape, fixing it to an A2 card base and adding some silver Nuvo Drops randomly.
