Today, I’m going back to basics with some Fab Foiling, I’m sharing some tips for getting the best results using Fab Foiler panels and creating a gorgeous, yet so simple card to boot!

First, a quick note on Fab Foil—it’s toner-activated, which means it won’t work with a hot foil stamping setup. But don’t worry, toner isn’t the only way to use these high-quality foils. They’ll work with anything sticky!

Fab Foiler, Fab Foil-ed

1. In this tutorial, I heated up my Laminator and prepped my foiling while it reached the right temperature. For this technique, you can use either a Laminator or something like a MINC machine. Our Fab Foilers are toner-printed, so a little heat is all you need to achieve those gorgeously Fab Foiled backgrounds and sentiments.
2. I started with our brand-new Deepest Darkest Crimson foil, pairing it with the distressed stripes background from our Love & Hugs Foiler set. Even though our foil comes wrapped around a card shim and may have folds, the Laminator will smooth it out like an iron as it rolls through
3. Next, I used our new Metal Marmalade foil on the Happy Birthday panel from the Sweet Sentiments Foiler pack. To keep the foil from shifting, I secured it to the back of the Foiler with some washi tape before feeding it into the Laminator.
4. Once the foiling process was done, I peeled back the plastic release sheet to reveal the gorgeous foil finish. The key to a successful Fab Foiling is ensuring your machine is hot enough to evenly bond the foil to the toner. If not, just run the panel through again after letting your machine heat up more—this won’t affect the foiling already in place.
5. I love doing a batch of foiled pieces in one go, making the most of the time my machine is out. Peeling back that Deepest Darkest Crimson foil was a delight—it’s my current favorite! The metallic orange from Metal Marmalade looked fantastic too.
6. For a bit of variety, I also tried a two-tone foiling with pink and turquoise foils on a swirly pattern. I cut and tacked down each piece before running them through the Laminator. The results were stunning—two colors beautifully merged on one panel!

Fab Foiled Sentiments

I showcased our Peruvian Gold foil, a gorgeous matte finish that’s been missing from our collection. I compared it with our Bright Gold foil on a panel of pre-printed sentiments from the Sweet Sentiments Foiler pack. The contrast between the matte and shiny finishes was striking. After trimming out all my foiled sentiments, I store them in little pots on my pegboard, ready for future projects.

Creating The Card

Finally, I made a card with one of the foiled backgrounds I created. I cut it with an A2 layering die, then heat-embossed a smaller cardstock piece using our new Pastiche powder. After layering and adhering all the elements, I added a butterfly I had stamped, die-cut, and ink-blended. The card came together beautifully with some gold pearl embellishments as the finishing touch.
