Creating Depth in a White Flower
I decided to start by cutting all of the necessary pieces from Neenah 80lb cardstock; this way I would be able to colour each layer myself and it was also a really good way to get a feel for how the pieces layer together before committing to how dark I wanted each to be.
I wanted the flower to appear white, but if I left all of the pieces white the flower would look really flat and unnatural. Even white objects have areas of shadow, and I decided to use my warm grey copics to add the colour to the right places.
This is such an easy flower to layer; the bulk of the ‘work’ is just to layer one detail piece on top of a base layer. This top piece becomes the highlights, so adding the shadow was as easy as just colouring the base layer using W1.
i coloured each layer of the leaves and bud, just following the layering information on the pack to choose the right colour for each piece. I also coloured some stems.
It may seem like a daunting task to begin with, but if you follow the helpful layering guide that comes in the packaging, you can tell where each piece fits in and also, which pieces should be the same colour.
I cut the two layer sentiment from some more Neenah 80lb and I coloured the base layer with the same brown marker I used for the flower centre.
The Diamond Frame cover die made the perfect backdrop to these large floral elements, and I cut it from Gold Mirror cardstock, then layered it onto an a2 panel of Neenah 80lb.
