I’m sharing my absolute FAVOURITE heat embossing technique, and I’d love to know if you’ve tried it before?!
My Favourite Technique: Solid Backgrounds
- Press the Ultra Slow Dry embossing ink pad to the upper half of an a2 panel of Neenah 80lb, then add swipes of ink that extend the edge of the inked area, using the Mixed Media embossing Brush. You are looking for an organic edge to our blending, so don’t pay attention to how you brush the ink on!
- Add Primary Soft Aqua embossing powder, from the new Island Time Trio over the entire inked area and then, heat set.
Finishing the design
- Once that is done, emboss pieces of cardstock with the Antique Gold and Antique Copper embossing glitters (Frosted Jewels trio). For a more concentrated amount of sparkle, emboss a second layer over the top. (Tip! Whenever I do this, I make use of scraps of cardstock that will be big enough to cut your dies from.)
- Die cut three of the decorative wing layers from the Fly Away With Me & Fly Away With Me 2 die sets. (I cut the largest Butterfly from the Gold piece and both of the smaller dies from the Copper because I wanted some variety in them.)
- Die cut the bottom, solid layer, from Altenew Brushed Rose Gold cardstock. Adhere the embossed layers to their coordinating solid layer, but only apply glue to the centres to allow you to tease the wings up for a more dimensional look.
- Stamp a sentiment from the Falling Hearts stamp set in Canyon Clay ink from Altenew, because this is a great match to the Rose Gold cardstock.
- Trim down the embossed panel to 4in x 5.25in and then, mat this onto an a2 sized panel of the same Rose Gold cardstock. (Tip! To avoid wasting any of your gorgeous speciality cardstock, cut the centre out of this matting layer, before you glue it. ou won’t be able to tell from the front at all, but it reduces the amount of it that it is hidden behind the smaller panel!)
- Glue the Butterflies to this panel using strong liquid glue and lastly, embellish with Rose Gold Glitterstones embellishments.
