Heat Embossing To Add That WOW! Factor!! – AECP Level 2 Post 10!

I have had SO MUCH FUN completing my projects for my Level 2 AECP classes, I’ve loved them all but I saved my favourite technique until last.

Heat embossing is like some sort of magic to me, no matter how many times I do it! I just love watching that powder melt and seeing your project come to life with sparkle/dimension/shine, or all the above! ??

One of my favourite techniques to do with embossing powder is to emboss a whole panel that I can use as my background! I love the show stopping element of having a full panel of glitter, shimmer and/or shine! And I wanted to incorporate a couple of techniques for using embossing in different ways within my project.

I used this gorgeous purple glitter embossing powder from Wow, they have so many different specialist powders that are perfect for this technique! (Some of my favourites are the glitters and the marbling powders that give you a marbled mix of colours that you’ll never replicate a second time. Now, I know it looks as though this panel would use up a huge chunk of your powder, but honestly it won’t!! I do this all the time with my powder collection and I’ve never had to reorder a powder yet!!!

I used Versamark ink as my sticky binding agent to get the powder to stick on the paper long enough for me to heat set it; I literally just smoosh the ink pad straight onto the paper before pouring the powder on.

You need to make sure that your heat gun is really hot before you bring it to the paper, this will minimise warping, I always have my heat gun on for 40-60 seconds before I use it.

If, like me, you opt for a glitter powder, you need to heat from the back of the paper first because this will allow the powder to start melting before you bring your heat gun round the front, otherwise the glitter will all be blown away before it can melt.

I also used embossing to make my sentiment, stamping out two of the words from Mega Label Love set in Versamark and added Rich Gold powder to it. This type of powder can be heated from the front straight away but you still need to make sure the heat gun is hot before you bring it to the paper. I trimmed the two parts of my sentiment down ready to adhere to my project.

In order to balance the design a little I decided to include some black and white flowers because the background is very bright and in your face, so some monotone additions are a great way to offset the busy nature.

I chose the Bamboo Roses set because I like the way that their sketchy nature looks against the blocky sentiment. I stamped and fussy cut them then I arranged them onto the background panel with my sentiments. I popped them up onto foam tape, but I also added some liquid glue and then set a large acrylic stamp block on the top as it dried to make sure it really adhered well to the very textured background. A few of these gorgeous Starlight sequins finished my design off nicely.

If you’ve never tried embossing a background like this then I really hope you’ll give it a go, it is so much fun!! I’ve got lots of other examples of this technique here on my blog, I’d love for you to stick around and check them out!
