Crafting My Place In The World

The Tortured Poets Department | Crafty Swiftie

Hey Crafty People!

In a continuation of my Crafty Swiftie series, I became a Tortured Poet and I humbly submit this article into evidence. (Hehehe, I’m definitely in character for this one, but I have been listening to this album NON STOP and I just had to make an art piece for it!) In case you didn’t know; Taylor Swift released her new album, The Tortured Poets Department, and it is a MASTERPIECE.

If you haven’t seen any of my other Crafty Swiftie makes; this series is me making art work on a2 panels that I’m going to decorate my Craft Space with. I’ve already made a bunch using the Meet me at Midnight card kit, you can find the playlist here.)

The Tortured Poets Department

I used quite a few products and techniques making this one, and I had some help from a mini printer that I purchased from TikTok; it was such an asset in this creation! I’ll link the one I got below and over on my TikTok gallery.

Making the Background

  1. Swipe a combination of Grey Catherine Pooler inks over an a2 panel of Neenah Solar White 80lb. Allow to dry, completely.
  2. Ink up Hero Arts’ Novel Prose Bold Print with the same Grey inks and stamp onto the background panel. The text on this is actually from Alice in Wonderland, which is so perfect for this. (IYKYK)
  3. Splatter the panel with black ink or watercolour.

You left your typewriter at my apartment…

The absolutely perfect die set for this album, was a Large die of the month from Spellbinders. I’m not sure if they still have any, but I will link it if they do.

  1. Cut pieces for the set from black & grey cardstock, plus glossy white specialty cardstock. Build the Typewriter as per the instructions and place a double sided foam adhesive die cut as the very base piece.
  2. Type lyrics in a Typewriter font onto a file (I used Canva but this will work with lots of different apps) overlapping then to add to the tortured vibe. Save file as.a PNG.
  3. Open the app that connects to the mini printer and select to print a photo. Print the PNG you created onto sticker paper. Adhere onto a cardstock piece for stability.
  4. Feed through the die cut slit on the top of the Typewriter to appear that it is being typed.
  5. Add a piece of foam adhesive behind the writing piece and adhere the whole thing onto your background panel.

Finishing touches…

  1. Die cut small envelopes (Hero Arts Owl Post die set) from both white glossy cardstock and.Neenah 80lb. Lightly blend light grey onto the edges of the Neenah 80lb ones to add depth.
  2. Adhere these around the panel, tucking them in and behind the Typewriter.
  3. Die cut the number 13 from grey cardstock that is on top of adhesive foam and adding these to the upper right hand corner.

Please be aware:

As part of my Design Team and Guest Design work I do often receive free products to use, but I only ever recommend products that I genuinely love.

Also, I know how incredibly lucky I am to have these opportunities, but you don’t always NEED the newest products or the ‘full set’.
So please don’t feel that you need everything.
I like to show a variety of brands and products; this way there will be something for everybody to enjoy.
