Hey Crafty People

Today I’m taking part in an Altenew blog hop to celebrate Altenew Paint-A-Flower: White Swan Echinacea Outline Release.
If you aren’t familiar with the Paint-A-Flower, it is a monthly, floral outline stamp set series, and it is available as a subscription service.
I love that these are smaller sets and they are so wonderfully versatile!
I decided to pair this stamp with the gorgeous mixed media inks released earlier this month!

Mixed Media Backdrop
I had so much fun playing with the new Glacier Caves Mixed Media inks, making the background for my card!
I started with an a2 panel of Distress Watercolour Cardstock and used a simple ‘ink smooshing’ technique, building up several layers of colour. (If you are unfamiliar with this technique, you can check out some of my past tutorials here.)
Once I was happy with the level of colour, I left the panel to dry thoroughly.
Next I wanted to add even more texture to my background, so I used an egg shaped makeup application sponge to apply some more of the ink through the Fine Tulle stencil.
I didn’t want the pattern to be all the way over the panel, so I focused the inking on certain spots; using lighter or darker inks depending on the colour that they were going over.
(The awesome thing about these inks is that they will layer on top of eachother in a way that Crisp Dye Inks wouldn’t do!)
Adding Coloured Pencil Details
Once the panel was thoroughly dry again, I grabbed the beautiful White Swan Ecinachia PAF stamp and, using my MISTI, I stamped it onto the lower left hand side of my panel, using Obsidian Pigment ink.
Then I stamped a sentiment from the same set just above the flowers.
To accentuate the blue on the petals, I used some different shades of blue pencil crayons. Focusing the darkest shading to the bases of the petals, or anywhere else that I though there would be shadow.
I used a couple of greens for the stems & leaves and some yellow/browns for the flowers’ centres.
The variety of depth of colour beneath the pencil shading gives such a beautiful contrast across the three flowers! ?
Next up on this hop is the uber talented Sandhya Iyer and the full blog hop lineup is at the bottom of this post for your information!
You should have arrived to me from the amazing Seeka…
