Today I’m taking part in an Altenew blog hop to celebrate Altenew Paint-A-Flower: Zinnia Magellan Rose Release.
If you aren’t familiar with the Paint-A-Flower, it is a monthly, floral outline stamp set series, and it is available as a subscription service.
I love that these are smaller sets, so they have a really good value and they are so wonderfully versatile!
Acetate Overlay
I embossed this gorgeous, large floral onto some heat resistant acetate with Gold Rcih WOW Embossing Powder, then turned it over and coloured the back of the image with some Artist Markers.
I used three shades of blue, first starting by colouring the whole flower in my medium blue, then adding some areas of darker blue, before using the bullet nib to dot lots of the lightest blue throughout. This gives loads of texture to the finished piece, and I really like how these Dota of lighter blue spread and move the darker tones.
I also coloured the leaf, this time just adding two shades of green and not adding texture.
Once these were coloured, I fussy cut around the bottom of the flower, leaving the top uncut. Then I creased a fold line about 1/2 inch from the top of the acetate sheet – I will use this when adding my acetate to a card panel.
My sentiment is from the same PAF set, and I stamped it in Obsidian ink onto an a2 panel of Neenah 80lb. For some simple tone-on-tone texture, I added vertical scorelines every 1/4inch across the shorter side. (I scored the back of the panel, so that the lines were embossed onto the front of it, and you can still see the sentiment perfectly!)
Attaching the acetate is easy with the flap at the top; I just added some strong double sided adhesive and adhered that to the back of the scored panel. (I did hide a few dots of glue to the bottom edge, hiding it behind the embossed outline.) A few black enamel dots from the Essential Black & White set finished it off perfectly!!!

Vellum Overlay
I embossed the image onto some vellum in Silver Embossing Powder from WOW and then fussy cut the bottom edge to follow the leaves. I also embossed a sentiment from the set, but this time I used Silver Sparkle on vellum. (It’s tough to catch the sparkle this gives in the photos, but in real life it’s so pretty! You can read it really easily too.)
Geometric 3d embossing folders are such an awesome way to add some interest into the background and the one I’ve used here is definitely one of my favourites! This is Angled Mosaics and I dry embossed it onto an a2 panel of deep burgundy cardstock from my stash.
I attached this overlay in the same way as the acetate one and I added a strip of the same deep burgundy cardstock to attach my sentiment to. To keep the overlay secure, I tucked the end of the longest leaf under the cardstock strip.
Some white enamel dots are all I need to embellish this design.
