Crafting My Place In The World

How To: Emboss Resist Technique

Hey Crafty People!

Today, let’s take it back to basics with an emboss resist technique tutorial! I will of course be using some goodies from WOW, along with inks from Catherine Pooler & products from Hero Arts.

Emboss Resist?

Emboss Resist?

  1. Start by setting up your sentiment stamp in the MISTI, ensuring it is straight using the grid lines. Prep the new stamp by wiping the heel of your hand over it several times to remove the shiny residue for better stamping.
  2. Stamp the sentiment onto an A2 panel of Neenah Solar White 80lb using Versafine Onyx Black ink. Emboss the stamped sentiment with Clear Gloss embossing powder, leveraging the longer drying time of Versafine ink for better embossing results.
  3. Use Mint Tape to mask off the stamped sentiment. Align the tape using your glass mat to ensure the line is straight, and position it so the sentiment is centered.

Creating the ‘Resist’

  1. Place the panel in your MISTI, removing the mouse pad as you are using a mounted red rubber stamp. To avoid unwanted powder sticking, apply anti-static powder over the panel since you have handled it.
  2. Stamp the Hero Arts background stamp using WOW Embossing Ink, ensuring even pressure with a pressure tool to transfer the entire image. Pour Clear Gloss embossing powder over the stamped image, covering the entire panel while avoiding the masked area.
  3. Use a heat gun to melt the embossing powder. The powder will become clear and glossy as it melts, creating the resist surface for the next step.

Revealing the Resist

  1. Apply Rose Gold ink directly to the panel and blend using a domed foam tool. This creates a beautiful metallic background. Wipe off excess ink from the embossed areas with a dry cloth to reveal the clear embossed design. Apply red ink to the bottom part of the panel by taking the ink pad direct to the paper, again wiping off any ink from the embossed lines.
  2. Carefully remove the Mint Tape to reveal a crisp, white sentiment strip against the inked and embossed background.

This Was My Pivot Moment.

  1. If you feel the design needs a change, use Rounded Jewel Infinity Dies to cut the sentiment strip, ensuring it includes the rose gold and white balloon pattern. This smaller panel can then be mounted onto a glossy black panel cut with the next size up cardstock.
  2. Stamp the balloon design in red for a tone-on-tone look on the red background, enhancing the contrast with additional inking around the edges. Add the emboss resist panel with foam adhesive. Finish the card with red clay heart embellishments for added dimension and interest.d00?0

Let’s Talk Emboss Resist…

Remember, it’s okay to pivot your design if you aren’t satisfied with the initial results. Walking away and returning with fresh eyes can inspire new ideas and improvements. Enjoy the process of creating your unique and beautiful card
