Crafting My Place In The World

Oh, What Fun! | Spellbinders Small & Stitching Dies of the Month

Hey Crafty People!

I had so much fun with both of this month’s Small & Stitching Die of the Month clubs, and I even managed to use up some background pieces that have been sitting in my almost forgotten pile for months now!

Small Die of the Month – Here Comes Santa

  1. First, die cut all of the pieces from the Small Die of the Month from October. (To make colouring him easier, start with a colour of cardstock that matches. So, I cut his hat, arms, torso & legs from red, his face & nose from a light pink-peach and the rest from white.)
  2. Add colour & shade with your preferred method; I chose Copic markers. (Colours will be linked below.)
  3. Adhere all of the pieces together, using liquid glue for most, but adhering his head with foam adhesive for dimension. (TIP! To get those fiddly bits, like his buttons and eyes, add some double sided adhesive to the back of the main piece so the sticky is exposed in the little gaps then just pop the tiny die cuts into place.)
  4. Die cut his banner piece and emboss a sentiment from this month’s add-on in Polished Gold ep.
  5. Foil the Hypnotic HFP with Matte Gold onto an a2 panel of that red cardstock.
  6. Ink blend with a series of red inks, to create an ombre following the same circular pattern as the foiling, with the darkest part on the very edges. (TIP! Don’t forget to wipe off any stray ink that is sitting on top of the foiling.
  7. Adhere Santa with another layer of foam adhesive!

Ohhhhh, Christmas Tree!

  1. Die cut the main Christmas Tree from green cardstock. Stitch with the debossed lines with green thread, starting from the very top and working your way down to the bottom. Secure both ends of the thread with strong tape adhesive.
  2. Next, let’s add some tinsel details! Thread Gold metallic wire up and down under the rows of green, connecting the bottom of one row to the top of the next. For the last row, just backstitch all the way across to give a continuous line. Add gem stone Baubles to your heart’s content!
  3. Hand cut a small thin, rectangle and a tapered plant pot shape, colouring the edges darker, to give shadow.
  4. TIP! For the star, I used a white acrylic star shaped dot, and I coloured it in yellow with a Copic marker!
  5. Foil a Hexagon using Yana’s Geo Floral Glimmer set, in Prism and die cut. Adhere the tree onto the Hexagon, with foam adhesive.
  6. Cut the sentiment banner from the set from Gold mirror cardstock, and also cut one from white. Snip this white one and adhere each end offset for extra detail. (It’s a really simple way to give the banner an accent which will help it stand out even more!) Adhere across the tree, with plent of liquid adhesive and leave something heavy on top whilst it dries to make sure it sticks well to the embroidered tree.

Now, for that background

  1. Die cut the background panel and leave the pieces in the die, whilst adding pieces of double sided adhesive tape behind each of the Baubles &to secure them in place. This gives you the design as a tone-on-tone backdrop which just gives a little subtle detail behind your focal point.
  2. For some extra fun, adhere more Gold mirror cardstock behind this panel to show through some of the holes! (To avoid waste, you can adhere small scrap pieces behind each one, it does take longer but it does mean you’re not hiding any of that gorgeous Gold behind the panel!)

Please be aware:

As part of my Design Team and Guest Design work I do often receive free products to use, but I only ever recommend products that I genuinely love.

Also, I know how incredibly lucky I am to have these opportunities, but you don’t always NEED the newest products or the ‘full set’.
So please don’t feel that you need everything.
I like to show a variety of brands and products; this way there will be something for everybody to enjoy.
