Guest Designing for WOW! Embossing Intricate Dies

Hey Crafty People!

I am beyond excited to be invited by WOW to take part in a blog hop that they are doing with Kat Scrappiness! When I say excited, I really do mean excited; like would be jumping up and down if I could so instead I’ll just squeal, kind of excited!

It’s no secret that I adore WOW products; I use them on almost every project I make and heat embossing is hands down my favourite technique.

Kat Scrappiness is a new brand to me, so I really enjoyed checking out their products and I chose some amazing things to play with, so let’s get into it!

I was like a kid in a candy shop choosing which Kat Scrappiness products I wanted to play with, but I just knew I had to have this gorgeous lacy heart die the moment I saw it; I knew how amazing it would look embossed with one of WOW’s specialty powders!I also chose a swatch mini stamp set and some gorgeous embellishments.

It was too hard choosing one powder to use! Which means I have not one, but two cards to share with you, using a total of four delicious embossing powders!!

Welcome to the WOW! Embossing Powder & Kat Scrappiness Blog Hop! We have TWO days of inspiration for you using Kat Scrappiness Stamps, Dies, and Embellishments and WOW! Embossing Powders. And of course there are amazing PRIZES! WOW! Embossing Powders is giving away a $25 Gift Certificate to either their UK or USA Store and Kat Scrappiness is giving away a $25 Gift Certificate to their store. All you need to do to win is COMMENT. The more blogs you comment on the more chances you have to win! The winners will be chosen at RANDOM from ANY of the blogs on the two day hop.

Ruby Romance

Card number 1 has a classic red & white theme; I started by embossing a piece of Neenah 80lb that was big enough to fit the shadow heart from in Ruby Romance. This is a gorgeous, vibrant red glitter powder that immediately makes me think of Dorothy’s shoes! I cut three of the lacy hearts from Neenah and glued them together and then adhered this stacked die cut onto my red glitter heart.

TIP! When adhering anything onto one of these glitter embossed pieces you need to use a really strong liquid glue and place something on top to hold it down whilst it dries to ensure you get a strong hold. I usually use either my phone or an acrylic block.

I made my own patterned paper for my background by taking two of the stamps from the swatch set, a heart & three square oulines in a row, and stamping them randomly across the whole panel. I made sure to add some of the stamps sitting partially off one of the edges, which gives the illusion that it is a piece cut from a larger paper and as such the pattern continues off the page. I embossed them onto an 80lb A2 card panel. I used white pearl to get a subtle tone on tone look, but it catches the light beautifully!

I decided where I wanted my heart to sit on my finished background and cut the shadow heart layer from my panel to allow me to in lay the Ruby Romance embossed heart into it. I also did the same with a sentiment die on the lower right of my panel, then I cut the sentiment out of a scrap of paper I embossed with the Ruby glitter.

I took a strip of deep red cardstock and embossed my sub sentiment onto that using the White Pearl powder and added a few ‘sparkling clear’ sequins I got from Kat Scrappiness. Those sequins couldn’t have matched more perfectly if I tried! They look just like the pearl embossing.

I had chosen to put my heart off to the left side, partially off the panel which meant I needed to trim some of it away, it was at this point I realised my error; the stacked die cut was much too thick for my paper trimmer, so I had to use a ruler, pencil and craft knife to gently & carefully cut away the bit that overhangs the edge of the panel. It wasn’t easy, and I did really struggle with my hands but I just went really slowly and carefully a little bit at a time.

Long Island Teal

For this card I embossed a piece of card stock with the stunning Long Island Teal powder and then I die cut the lacy heart out of this; it cut so easily, just like butter! You might expect it to be a little tough to cut because of just how intricate it is, but I had absolutely no trouble at all! This time I chose for the shadow panel to be plain white, to let it show off that stunning teal & gold.

I also embossed a strip of scrap card stock, large enough to fit across the width of my card, I just wanted some more of that stunning embossing really!

I used the same technique to get the background for this card, but I just mixed up the look by using a grey cardstock, two different stamps from the swatch set and adding a grey embossing powder called Opaque British Summer*.

(*This is genuinely hilarious to me! I absolutely love the names they give to some of these powders, but this one is extra funny because it is so true! And as a fellow Brit I am allowed to say that!!*)

I positioned my heart in a similar place, but this one was a breeze to cut through which made the whole thing a little less stressful!

I added a vellum printed sentiment from my desk stash and then these gorgeous Shimmering Onyx sequins from Kat Scrappiness which I absolutely adore!!

Bonus! Swatches

I knew that the swatch stamp set would make a great staple item in my craft room; it’s awesome for making custom backgrounds as you’ve already seen, but it is also perfect for swatching out all of my lovely embossing powders.
