Altenew 11th Anniversary Blog Hop Day 3 + Giveaway – New Cardmaking Project

Get ready to create a uniquely beautiful card! Below you’ll find the detailed step-by-step instructions, enjoy these creative tips and feel free to add your personal twist!

1. Stamping the Butterfly:
   Begin by stamping a Butterfly from your Flutter & Bloom large stamp set using Obsidian ink. Allow the impression to dry thoroughly – taking your time here ensures a crisp image that will shine in your finished piece.
2. Colouring the Butterfly:
   Next, colour your Butterfly with the coordinating colouring stencils and Northern Shore Fresh Dye Inks. Use mini blending brushes to carefully work into the details. Enhance your butterfly by gently adding darker inks to create natural shadows and extra visual depth.
3. Die Cutting & Optional Embellishments:
   Once satisfied with the colours, die cut the Butterfly from your card stock. For those who love a touch of sparkle, feel free to add additional details using a sparkly Gel Pen. Dot, draw lines, or create any pattern that suits your creative spirit.
4. Stamping and Embossing the Sentiment:
   Now, stamp your chosen sentiment from Build-a-Garden Sulfur Cosmos with Obsidian. Act quickly before the ink dries and emboss the sentiment with Clear Gloss embossing powder. Die cut this stamped sentiment and set both die cut pieces aside carefully.

Making the Background

1. For a textured, eye-catching background, use your Betterpress system and the Essential Textures: Basketweave Press ‘n’ Foil Plate Set. Ink up your plate with Paper Bag Fresh Dye Ink and run it through your machine with an A2 panel of yellow cardstock. 2. With a blending brush, add extra Paper Bag along the edges to achieve a distressed look. Then, gently blend Caramel Toffee Fresh Dye Ink toward the centre, allowing it to fade naturally to the colour of your cardstock.
3. For an optional luxurious touch, swipe Antique Gold ink pad directly to the edges to create beautifully gilded borders.

Assembling the Card:

1. Tear approximately 1/4 inch off each edge of an A2 panel of vellum to produce a charming distressed edge – this will leave a neat 1/4 inch border once assembled. If you’d like to add even more texture, scrunch the vellum, let it relax, and then scrunch again; any slight tears only add character.
2. Adhere the die cut Butterfly and stamped sentiment onto this vellum panel using foam adhesive to create lovely dimension. Use extra adhesive strategically on the back of the vellum and beneath the sentiment to ensure a secure bond. Finally, roughly centre your assembled elements onto the background panel
3. Wrap Gold raffetta – or whichever your favourite decorative trim is – around the panel 2–3 times, securing it firmly at the back.Enjoy creating this project and remember, every little detail adds to the uniqueness of your finished card!
