Is It Worth The Hype? | Spellbinders BetterPress

Hey Crafty People!

I’m sure you’ve seen the new Spellbinders BetterPress System and maybe you’re wondering is it really worth the hype?

I had a fun playtime with the Spellbinders BetterPress and I will answer that question and many more in my new video but….

TLDR: OMG YES! I absolutely LOVE this new system, it is honestly completely foolproof. It makes such a gorgeous effect that is nothing like anything I’ve tried before.

Spellbinders BetterPress System: Unboxing & First Impressions

Faux Watercolour Made Easy

  1. Position your floral and sentiment on the Magnetic Chase and tape an a2 panel of Porcelain Cotton Cardstock onto the Platten.
  2. Ink your plates using the Pounce & Pivot technique and snap the Platten into place.
  3. Roll through your Platinum 6 and remove from the other side. Remove your Platten and take the panel off it.
  4. The ink will be dry so you can continue on to colour straight away (or set aside whilst you play with the BetterPress more!)
  5. Using a Tombow Blender Marker and Catherine Pooler inks, colour each of the petals in with your lighter colour. Add colour to the base of each petal and draw it up & out towards the tip. Go back in with your darker colour, adding it to anywhere you would naturally have shadow. Blend it out with more of that first colour.
  6. Colour the leaves, adding colour directly to the base and up through the midline, then blend this colour out to the outer edges of the leaf. This will give you a natural highlight.
  7. Lastly, colour the centres of the flowers. Add colour across the entire area, let it dry for a few seconds then add more pigment into the natural shadows.
  8. Tear a piece of masking tape and roughly cover the sentiment to protect it, then splatter the panel with black ink/watercolour. Flick the colour off the edge of a gift card, or similar item, with your loaded paintbrush. (Direct the splatter by moving the gift card.)

Debossed Metallic

  1. Position the Grateful For You plate on your magnetic Chase and fix an a2 panel of Brushed Metallic cardstock onto the Platten. Roll through your Platinum 6 with out adding any ink.
  2. Applay ink to the sentiment plate, and Press this into Porcelain cardstock. Die cut this piece.
  3. Once you have your debossed metallic panel, wrap black thread around it vertically and fix to the back with strong double sided adhesive.
  4. Separate more of that black thread into its individual strands and drop onto the centre of the panel. Move slightly, as required and once you’re happy with its placement, lock in by adhering the sentiment down on top with adhesive foam tape.

Half ImPressed With Ink

  1. Tape an a2 panel of Pebble cardstock onto your Platten and place the Grateful For You plate onto your Magnetic Chase.
  2. Apply a piece of Best Ever Craft Tape over the plate diagonally to mask off roughly half of it. Apply ink to the lower half, taking care to get ink right up to that taped line. Peel the tape off and roll through with the Platten in place. (The upper part without ink will deboss the pattern into the card.
  3. Smoosh 2 shades of ink onto a piece of plastic packaging, spritz with water and carefully flip over and on to your Pressed panel. Use the plastic to move that ink around, lifting & moving it to get any areas that have been missed. Dry thoroughly.
  4. Die cut the letters needed for ‘Best Dad Ever’ from both white cardstock and Silver brushed metallic. (To make assembly easier, add double sided adhesive to the back of the cardstock before die cutting.)
  5. Stack up with the Silver on top. Arrange your letters how you would like them and lift them all in one go using Press’N Seal (or strips of tape). Adhere to the background panel.
  6. Add a foiled sub sentiment (I love having the pre foiled and sitting on my desk to use whenever I want to add a touch of foil.)
  7. Embellish with Prism gems.

Please be aware:

As part of my Design Team and Guest Design work I do often receive free products to use, but I only ever recommend products that I genuinely love.

Also, I know how incredibly lucky I am to have these opportunities, but you don’t always NEED the newest products or the ‘full set’.
So please don’t feel that you need everything.
I like to show a variety of brands and products; this way there will be something for everybody to enjoy.
