Simple Yet STUNNING Birthday Card

Using the large Blending Tool & the Tranquility ink family, I created a background for my card. I started in the middle with the lightest ink, and then added darker colours as I worked out towards the edge. This creates a beautiful spotlight effect and gives the perfect place to add a focal element.
To get a smooth and even blend, I always work through the inks, light to dark, then I work back down through them dark-light. Just continue doing this until you have a level of colour that you’re happy with.

The gorgeous new Lacy Doily die has such gorgeous detail and cut from a gold cardstock I felt it didn’t need anything else except the simple stamped sentiment.

Foiling On Dark Cardstock

[Foiling will always work best on smooth cardstock, so you should definitely test out the cardstocks that you have to figure out if they will work for foiling.]

Silver on black looks so good, and the new Vibrant Flowers hot foil plate is so big that it can easily fill an a2 card. I got a little over foiling on the edge so I just cut the panel down slightly and adhered it offset on my card to give a border to the right and bottom. (I love adding a panel like this sometimes as it gives some really unexpected interest, and just mixes things up a bit.)

Dry Embossed Focal

Have you ever tried colouring with your alcohol markers over a foiled image? It works beautifully and won’t harm either your foil or markers!

This time I foiled the image with Matte Gold and I coloured it using my Rock Garden Collection Artist Markers for a beautifully desaturated colour.
Again, I trimmed down the panel and added a simple stamped sentiment on a strip.

Ink Blended Florals – Two Ways

For my first card, I foiled the image in silver and then used the coordinating stencil to colour the image really quickly & easily using ink blending.
For extra detail, I used a two tone method when adding my ink, using a darker ink to the bottom of each section for added dimension.

Inks I used:

• Fresh Lemon, Maple Yellow, Honey Drizzle
• Orange Cream, Autumn Blaze, Firebrick
• Minty Mint, Sweet Leaf

I used the new Wonderfully Made die for my sentiment, cutting it from some of the blue glitter cardstock and stacked that on two layers of white cardstock. (I offset the glitter piece just slightly, to give a little bit of a drop shadow. This really helps your sentiment to POP!)

Another way I helped the sentiment stand out against all of that foiling and ink blending, is by putting it on to a strip of vellum that I wrapped around the card panel.

For my second card with this gorgeous hot foil plate, I foiled the image in rainbow foil onto a piece of Neenah 80lb – I absolutely love the way that the Rainbow plays out across the whole image!

I continued the rainbow theme with my ink blending, choosing to add ink that matched the colour of each part of the rainbow foiled image. I absolutely love how it turned out! WOW!!!

Inks I Used:

• Fresh Lemon, Maple Yellow
• Orange Cream, Autumn Blaze
• Rubellite, Razzleberry
• Persian Blue, Sapphire
• Lagoon
• Just Green

The background is split, with the bottom part debossed with the Dotted Tile Debossing plate, and then a standard piece of Neenah 80lb cut diagonally and layered onto the top of the panel.
I fussy cut the foiled & coloured image and popped it up on Instant Dimension foam tape onto my background.

I trimmed a sentiment strip down into three pieces and glued them onto the background.
