Slimline Vintage Florals

  1. Stamp the large branch image with Permanent Black Crisp Dye Ink on to your preferred White cardstock. (I use 80lb. Neenah Solar White.)
  2. Using the coordinating stencils, add colour using various Crisp Dye Inks and blending tools. The stencils are all clearly labelled to help you see which one is for each portion of the image, and each will have several layers to create the realistic shadows & highlights. So, start with the lightest ink on the most open stencil, and get darker as you work through the layers. (Altenew makes this easy by using their ink families of light, medium, far & extra dark inks. The inks I used are linked below in my supplies section.)
  3. Once your entire image is coloured, cut the panel down using one of the Nesting Rectangles Slimline die; this gives the right size panel and also leaves a nice, embossed border.
  4. To create that vintage feel, blend Tranquility inks from the edges of the panel in towards the centre. The large blending brushes are the BEST tool to use for this because they give you a really even blend, which really helps you to not have any darker/harsh edges that would spoil your beautiful image.
  5. Darken the edges of the panel using the darker inks from the Tranquility family, but be sure not to use too much pressure to allow your image to still shine through.
  6. Once dry, splatter Gold paint from the Metallic Watercolor Pan Set.
  7. Die cut a sentiment from gold mirror cardstock and add a vellum shadow to allow the sentiment to pop off that busy panel.

Two Cards for the work of one!

  1. Stamp the image onto a 8.5in x 5.5in deep red cardstock using clear, sticky embossing ink and add Platinum embossing powder.
  2. Cut this in half to get 2x 4.25in x 5.5in a2 panels. (I did trim a little off each panel so that I would have a small white border once I added them to an a2 card base.)
  3. Using one of the Large Blending Brushes add ink to each panel. I used the two darkest inks from the Sugarplums ink family; Grape Agate & Plum to make the outside of the panel darker. (Using coloured cardstock makes this so much quicker and easier!)
  4. If, like me, you want to get even more of a contrast, then Rhodolite from the Jewel Tones inks works well.
  5. A clear sparkle brush pen, like a Wink Of Stella, works both to ‘paint’ onto the image for extra detail and also to splatter over the whole background. (I always add a little extra water when I splatter it though to help it move a little better.)

To finish these panels;

  1. For the first card, I oriented the panel portrait, leaving an equal border on either side but with a bigger border at the bottom and no border at the top. (Just to mix it up a little!) Plus, a sentiment strip and some white acrylic dots.
  2. The second card, I stamped a sentiment in Obsidian, which in real life stands out really well but doesn’t come through on the photos brilliantly. I offset this one, so that the white border is on two sides, and added some more acrylic dots and hearts.
