Combining Background Elements

For the background, I first cut a panel of Neenah 110lb with the largest die from the Mix & Match Frames die set; this is an absolute staple set in my opinion and I’ve used it so many times! I love the little holes it cuts around the border.

Once I had the a2 panel cut, I used some low tack tape to secure the Dotted Lines Debossing cover panel whilst I ran the panel through my die cutting machine for the second time.

I chose to use 110lb cardstock because I wanted to be sure of getting the best impression from the Debossing Panel; I didn’t want to lose any of that detail.

It’s important to cut then deboss the panel because the die cutting machine would squash down that detail from the debossing plate if you did it the other way round.

To add a pop of gold, I cut the sentiment from some gold mirror cardstock and layered it on a vellum shadow, (the sentiment is from the Seasonal Blooms die set.) Then I decided to add some more gold behind the panel, so you can see it through the border, but also when you move the card you get flashes of gold through the debossed holes which looks so cool!

Layering The Orchids

It may seem like a daunting task to begin with, but if you follow the helpful layering guide that comes in the packaging, you can tell where each piece fits in and also, which pieces should be the same colour.

One of the awesome things about Altenew’s layering die sets like this, is that they group together all of the pieces that cut from the same colour into one die. This makes it SO MUCH EASIER than having each individual piece as one separate die.

This worked so well for the way I had decided to colour these little flowers; I was able to quickly add colour to Neenah 80lb cardstock with Artist Markers, then cut all of the pieces in this colour with one pass.

When you add double sided adhesive to the back of the cardstock before you die cut, this makes assembling each small flower an absolute breeze!
