Altenew Craft Your Life Project Kit: Garden Rose Release Blog Hop + Giveaway ($300 in total prizes)

Hey Crafty People

Welcome to the Altenew Craft Your Life Project Kit: Garden Rose Release Blog Hop + Giveaway!!!

The hop will be packed full of awesome inspiration using the brand new Craft Your Life Project Kit for October; Garden Rose! If you’ve not seen one of these new releases before then you are surely in for a treat!!!

Each month the kits will consist of stamps, dies, stencils & embossing folders that are created to coordinate beautifully with each other.

These products will be exclusive to the kit and won’t be available to purchase separately; the value really is AMAZING!

Whilst this post is part of the release hop, you’ll find techniques here that you can easily use with your own crafty stash if you aren’t shopping for new products right now! ??

Stamping Onto Patterned Paper

A super quick way to add coloured focal points to your image is by simply stamping them onto some beautiful patterned paper! You get all of the interest, with like a teensy amount of the effort! ?
Now that’s just good sense!!!

I absolutely love the Wildflower patterned paper 6×6 pack, and I chose some of the patterns which would work for these florals; then I simply stamped the outline images onto the paper in Obsidian Pigment ink. It was really easy to die cut these out too with the coordinating dies.

I trimmed down two more papers to give me an a2 panel with a slightly smaller panel matted on top. Before I stuck the focal images down, I added a vellum Diamond Frame Cover die cut, using tiny dots of glue, hidden where the pattern is a bit darker. (I did cut the outer frame from the die cut so that I just had that diamond part.)

I used liquid glue for the leaves and then Instant Dimension foam tape for the three flowers, doubling the foam up for the third flower to give it even more dimension.

For a sentiment, I just stamped one from the stamp set onto an offcut of the paper I used in the background.

Faux Watercolour Stamping

I stamped several of each of the images onto some watercolour cardstock, with Obsidian pigment ink, then I left them to dry well before moving onto the next step so that I didn’t get any ink bleeding.
I lined up the most solid layer for each of the roses, in my MISTI, and after applying ink to the stamp (but before stamping) I spritzed the stamp with some clean, clear water from my Fine Mister bottle and stamped it; then I continued in the same way for each of the stamp layers for both roses. This technique lets the ink spread out a bit, and gives a sort of faux watercolour effect which looks so cool!!!

I really quickly added some light green colour to all of the leaves, using the stencil and one of my Mini ink blending brushes.
Then I die cut all of them and I used some fore this card, some for the next card and put the rest back into the packaging to use in the future!

The striped stencil is perfect for making a really quick ink blended background, which I made darker on the edges for some added interest.

I added a simple stamped sentiment following the lines of the stripes, and added my florals with foam tape for dimension.

Graphic Printed Background

One of the stencils in this month’s kit has three large, swoopy words and I used one of my mini ink blending brushes to add a repeating pattern with the lightest two inks from the Rock Collection family. It’s a really simple and quick way to make a fun, graphic background for your beautiful focal point!!! I used the middle sized die from the the Mix n Match Frames die set to cut this panel down and give the really interesting die cut border.

I tore a strip of vellum that was long enough to wrap over the front of the panel, to be secured at either end on the backside with some strong double sided adhesive tape. After I had the larger piece in place, I realised that I had a second, much thinner strip, so I attached that too. I decided that I liked the smaller piece underneath the first piece, with a small gap in between them.

Then I positioned another of my roses on the left hand side, tucking one of the leaf stems in upside down, underneath the rose, to make it look like it was a single stem.

I finished with another of the sentiments from the stamp set, stamped in Obsidian onto a strip of Neenah 80lb.
