Hey Crafty People
Today I’m taking part in an Altenew blog hop to celebrate the release of the latest Paint-A-Flower: Clematis Josephine
If you aren’t familiar with the Paint-A-Flower, it is a monthly, floral outline stamp set series, and it is available as a subscription service.
I love that these are smaller sets and they are so wonderfully versatile!
I decided to show two ways to use the set; one quick, and so simple and the other a bit more of a detailed, time consuming way. So you get an example no matter what your mood or time constraint! ?
$200 in total prizes! To celebrate this release, Altenew is giving away a $50 gift certificate to 2 lucky winners and a $20 gift certificate to 5 winners! Please leave a comment on the Altenew Card Blog and/or each designer’s blog post on the blog hop list below by 06/27/2021 for a chance to win.
Altenew will draw 7 random winners from the comments left on each stop of this blog hop and announce the winners on the Altenew Winners Page on 06/29/2021.
Quick & Easy, Ink Swiping ‘Colouring’
One of my favourite ‘quick colouring’ techniques is to create a simple ombre ink swiped panel. This is an insanely easy way of adding a lot of colour, contrast and interest without really needing any special attention.
To be honest, Altenew make this technique even easier by grouping their inks into colour families where you get an extra light, light, dark and extra dark shade. You can create this ombre look without trying to find four inks that will work together.
Here I used the Cherry Blossom ink family to create my panel, then once that was fully dry, I used my MISTI to stamp the gorgeous floral bunch on the top with Obsidian Pigment ink. (Which is my absolute go to black ink. I LOVE it!)
I added a sentiment that is also from the stamp set, again using Obsidian ink. I really love the mixed font aesthetic that these sentiments have going on! ? (The PAF sets are always amazing for some really great sentiments!)
Watercolour & Altered Layout
For this design I started by stamping the main bulk of the florals on the lower left hand side of an a2 panel of watercolour cardstock. I used Obsidian again but this time I added clear embossing powder over the stamping. (Did you know that you can use Obsidian for embossing too??!)
I positioned my stamp again to give me more floral above those I had already stamped. I was a little bit cunning with placement though because I didn’t want to have to heat the embossing powder until I had finished all of my stamping and then I could heat everything together in one go. So I made sure that I got as much floral as I could, without having it go onto the image I already had stamped. I filled in any small gaps with the edges of the image to give me a really full look.
Once embossed, it’s so easy to paint an image because the embossing creates these ‘walls’ which keep all of your water and pigment in the place that you have put it; you are able to paint the whole image without worrying about there being two wet areas next to each other which would cause colour bleeding.
I painted this with my Altenew Crisp Dye Inks, these are fabulous to paint with and I love that you can stretch your Altenew supplies to give you even more value for your money!
Once I had painted all of the embossed images, I added some colour to my background, keeping the darkest colour against my images and allowing it to fade off into the rest of the panel.
I also added some splatter using the same blue I had painted with. I added some whilst the panel was wet which gives you a softer look as the splatters do disappate into the rest of the painting. Then once dry I added some more which gives a much more defined splatter. I also added a small amount of black splatter using my Jet Black watercolour brush marker; this is my favourite way to add black splatter to my projects now.
The sentiment is a die cut from the recently released All About You die from this month’s Stand Alone die release. (It’s such an amazing die set, I already know that it will be a go to set for me!)
You should have arrived to me from the amazing Sande Woodson…
Next up on this hop is the uber talented Joylita Dsouza and the full blog hop lineup is at the bottom of this post for your information!

Wow – both cards are gorgeous! I would never have thought of coloring an outline image by swiping the inks. Pure genius. The second card is beautifully done in water colors. I just created my first image this way – stamping and water coloring with Altenew dye inks, and it turned out not too bad. Thanks for great ideas for this stamp set.
