Hey Crafty People!
Today Im sharing three cards that I made using easy Washi Tape backgrounds. You can see exactly how I put these backgrounds together over on IG Reels/TikTok/YT Shorts.
Each of the three cards that I’m making are really clean & simple, because I wanted the focus of today’s post to be on the easy washi tape backgrounds!
Tone-On-Tone Greeting
- Layer three pieces of washi tape across an a2 panel of Alexandra Renke’s Cream ‘House cardstock’
- Cut the Sans Serif Alphabet dies several times from the same Cream cardstock. (You can cut these letters apart, but I have chosen to keep them together and cut as a single piece to avoid losing any of them.)
- Once you have these Alphas, you can easily adhere them directly to your card panel, but I chose to stack mine up for increased dimension, this helps the tone-on-tone sentiment to really stand out. So stack three of each letter on top of each other, then adhere to the card panel, right on the top of the first piece of washi. (This allows you to create whatever greeting you desire, and even makes it so easy to personalise your card. I just chose a simple ‘hello’.)
- Embellish with a few adhesive gems to match your washi colours.
Angled & Edgy
- Apply strips of Washi at diagonals from each side of an a2 panel of House cardstock, leave a small gap between the different strips. Use a ruler to help to get ripped edges at an angle that you like.
- Before applying the third strip of washi, tear along the edge for a fun & edgy look.
- Again, stack up several layers of the die cut letters and apply your sentiment over one of the strips of washi. (You need to use a strong glue when adhering something over washi, and my preference is to use both double sided and liquid glue for extra assurance. It is wise to leave something on top of the die cuts to hold them flat whilst the glue dries for the best result.)
- Die cut several of the Flowers 09 dies and stack these up before applying the flowers directly to the panel, overlapping the washi strips.
- Embellish with several adhesive gems, but add a dot of liquid glue too when applying them to the washi tape directly.)
Invoking Elegance
- On another a2 panel of House cardstock, apply two strips of washi that both run straight down from the top of the panel. Roughly tear the edges for an organic look, and leave a slightly larger gap between the strips. (This is the only card where I only used one Washi design, rather than mixing up the patterns; you can do either depending on the aesthetic you’re looking to create. I feel like the first two are more playful whereas this one looks a bit more elegant; both styles are perfectly valid, and it just depends on the recipient/creator!)
- Die cut several of the Flower 12 dies and again, stack up for a dimensional look. Apply these to the panel, intertwining the stems together.
- Add a foiled sentiment to up that elegance even further. (Use additional die cuts or foam adhesive behind the sentiment for added dimension.)
- Embellish with more adhesive gems.
Easy Washi Tape Backgrounds
Please be aware:
As part of my Design Team and Guest Design work I do often receive free products to use, but I only ever recommend products that I genuinely love.
Also, I know how incredibly lucky I am to have these opportunities, but you don’t always NEED the newest products or the ‘full set’.
So please don’t feel that you need everything.
I like to show a variety of brands and products; this way; this way there will be something for everybody to enjoy.
