I’m super happy to be starting my brand new monthly video tutorial ‘Five Ways With…’ This series will go up on The Little Paper Tree blog & channel first, then it will go over to my own the following week.
Each month I will be featuring a new topic and sharing five ways to create beautiful cards using the specific technique or supply.(Unfortunately, Covid caught me so this is actually March’s monthly tutorial.)
Five Ways With Patterned Paper
Card 1 – Create An Abstract Scene
For this card, I added strips of contrasting papers, to create an abstract scene for my little hippo to be peeking out from.
I like to use a busy pattern with a simpler one, as it creates a nice juxtaposition and interest. I used the new thick foam tape to add more dimension behind the second strip of paper, just because I like it!!!

Card 2 – Stamping Onto It
I love stamping images onto patterned paper, it’s a fun way to add interest to your design…plus, you don’t need to colour! Win-win! ??
I used three different patterns, one for each of my doll images, and popped them up on some foam tape.
I stamped a sentiment from the set, along with some little leafy images.

Card 3 – Embrace The Pattern
Sometimes, the paper is just so gorgeous that it deserves to have the total spotlight!!!
So that’s what I did here; I added a simple white strip with a gorgeous bold sentiment.
One thing that I love about CP papers is that they tell you which of your inks will work great with them…so it is so easy to choose which ones to use!

Card 4 – Flip & Reverse It For Clean & Simple
For this card, I sort of did the opposite of the last card by adding a small strip of visible pattern whilst keeping the rest of the card very clean & simple.
I stamped my sentiment in two inks to help the ‘mother’ part stand out more, and I chose some clear sequins from the Crater Lake mix for this card.

Card 5 – Use A Cover Die
I absolutely LOVE using cover dies. I love the way the busy patterned paper and patterned cover die look with each other!
Mixing it up with some more neutral papers gives the eye somewhere to rest upon, so I backed my die cut panel with some neutral grey from my stash. Then I ended up trimming that whole thing down and matted it with the yellow paper from the pack.
The die cut sentiment could have easily got lost in all that business, so I stack up several of them and I backed it with vellum.This helps the sentiment hold its own against the background.
