Hey Crafty People!

We are already nearing the end of February, which is honestly MADNESS, but it does mean it’s time for another Squirrels Gone Nutz collaboration!! (If you are scratching your head, and wondering what on Earth I am talking about then feel free to delve into last month’s post here.)
We’ve created a sort of Crafty Lottery as it were, that will give us a random pairing of theme and supply/technique and this month’s jackpot was Friendship and Shakers, (also, please note, I am using the Royal We, and all credit must go to my fellow nutters on this one!)
I honestly have NO idea where this card came from.
It’s one of those cases where a card idea just sort of falls out on your desk and by the time you know what’s happening you are halfway done.
Do you get what I’m talking about? Or is that just me?!
Planning & Painting…
I was totally planning a video on this one, but unfortunately it wasn’t until that halfway point I already mentioned that I realised I never hit record. Doh!!
I’m sorry but there was NO WAY I was gonna go back and start again, I had come too far!
Alas, maybe next month!
I embossed the gorgeous floral image from Pinkfresh Studios Thankful For Friends onto some Bristol Smooth with Superfine Silver from WOW! I chose this set because friendship is just baked straight into this one! (Especially because it was illustrated by my sweet friend Alex Syberia.)
I wanted to paint this using my Altenew Watercolour Brush Markers, and since I found how amazingly they work on Bristol Smooth I am legitimately OBSESSED with using them!! They are so beautiful!!
I chose Mountain Mist & Lagoon from the Winter Wonderland set for my petals, and Evening Gray from the Spring Garden set for my leaves.
Shake it off…
Once I had finished painting the flower, I set it aside to dry, whilst I worked on my shaker element. (*for details about how I use these brush markers check here.)
I die cut the Geo Floral cover die, also Pinkfresh, from Neenah 80lb that I had stuck double sided adhesive to the back of; this makes it super easy to adhere onto a panel of acetate. This would form the front of my shaker, because I’m making it full panel baby!! (*Note: That must be read a la ‘London Baby!’ If you know, you know.)
I used a double layer of adhesive foam strips from Scrapbook Adhesives, these things are AH-MAY-ZING for shakers and sentiment strips! I’ve only recently discovered them and I’m telling you, I am NOT going back!!!
I added a whole mix of seed beads, sequins and little hearts, in blues, teals and a pop of cream too, then I closed the shaker with another piece of acetate. This is an awesome tip that I got from Cassie Trask on Youtube, and it works perfectly because now you can easily line up your shaker exactly where you want on your background!
Speaking of backgrounds…
I wanted a soft background which would match my flower, so I painted a panel of Distress Watercolour cardstock (smooth side). I added more pigment to the top and then added more water as I got farther down the panel to give me a beautiful ombre wash.
For my sentiment, I heat embossed one of the ones from that same Thankful For Friends stamp set, using the same Silver EP onto vellum. After I held it against the rest of the card I realised that one layer of vellum wasn’t enough to diffuse the background so much as to allow you to read the sentiment. I ran it through my Xyron to get adhesive across the entire piece and stuck that down onto more vellum. I actually ended up with 3 layers, and I’m really happy with how that looks.
I managed to resist the urge to add any other embellishments, after all it is a little extra already, but boy do I love this one!!
Hop on over…
Next up is the wonderful Marie, I can’t wait to see what she has in store for us, so I’ll see you there!!!
Hey Crafty People!
Please be aware:
As part of my Design Team and Guest Design work I do often receive free products to use, but I only ever recommend products that I genuinely love.
Also, I know how incredibly lucky I am to have these opportunities, but you don’t always NEED the newest products or the ‘full set’.
So please don’t feel that you need everything.
I like to show a variety of brands and products; this way there will be something for everybody to enjoy.
