Today I’m sharing this Floral Geometric designs, using one of Altenew’s Fine Frames dies and another of their beautiful Floral images. This card is part of a hop over on Instagram, where you have the chance to win some fabulous watercolours from Peerless!!

I stamped the Book Club image onto a 4x 5.25 inch panel of Neenah 80lb, using Permanent Black Crisp Dye Ink; this ink is perfect for images you plan on colouring with alcohol markers.

You do need to allow the ink to dry before adding the colour to avoid smearing the ink. There isn’t a specified ‘drying time’ because this can vary hugely depending upon how many times you stamp the image and what your climate is like. If you live in a humid environment then you will need to leave your ink longer to dry.

The best way to check without ruining your stamped image is by stamping a little bit onto a piece of scrap paper at the same time, then you can check this with a marker before you start colouring! Also, heat setting it will speed up the process, but be careful not to warp your cardstock!

I used the three Artist’s Markers that come in the starter set to colour the whole image, just changing the combinations to give me several different looking shades!

You can add shadows using just a single colour by letting the ink dry before colouring back over the top again; this will give you a darker tone and this method of layering alcohol markers is called glazing.

Once I had finished the colouring I added some black splatters using some gouache and a fine brush.

The Book Club image has a circular frame in the centre, but for this design I added 7 of the frames that the Fine Frames Circle die cuts out.

I love to place my sentiment elsewhere, leaving that framed circle empty because it is where you would usually expect a sentiment to be and I just love to go against these design expectations!

I added one of the sentiments from the die cut strips set then added a border with a ruler and the 1.0 Black Fineliner.

I popped the whole panel on some foam tape onto an a2 card base made from Neenah 110lb.
