Today, I want to show you how to avoid your EZ-Light battery getting depleted in transit. So, think of it as mail Friendly Twinkle Lights!

I’m continuing my Pride Flag inspired projects with inks from Catherine Pooler, selected from my Swatch keyring. In case you hadn’t guessed, today’s inspiration is the Lesbian Pride Flag!

How to Avoid Your EZ-Light Battery Getting Depleted in Transit

1. Start by setting up your stamp in your MISTI. Since you’re using a Cling Rubber Stamp, remove the Mouse Pad from the MISTI. Stamp onto an A2 panel of Neenah Solar White with your WOW Embossing Ink. Ensure you get even pressure across the entire stamp with a pressure tool for the best results. Once stamped, cover it with Opaque Bright White Super Fine Grade embossing powder and heat set it fully.
2. Unfortunately, I forgot to hit record for this step, but I’ll walk you through it. Using inks from Catherine Pooler, blend two shades of orange from one corner, then flip the panel and blend purples from the opposite corner. Let the colors fade into a white strip in the center to avoid creating a muddy brown shade and to match the Lesbian Pride Flag inspiration.
3. Cut speech bubbles from gold cardstock and adhere them onto a piece of vellum. Trim around each speech bubble to remove any excess vellum. This adds a lovely, translucent effect to your design.
4. Prepare your sentiment using the ‘You Are Loved’ die from Simon Says Stamp. Adhere some Neenah Solar White to thin double-sided foam before die-cutting the words. Cut the shadow piece from the same gold cardstock. For added dimension, it’s easier to add foam before die-cutting. Use reverse action tweezers to adhere the die-cut sentiment to the shadow piece, not forgetting to place the hearts in the centers of the “o’s”.

Mail Friendly Twinkle Lights – Assembling the Card

1. With all individual parts ready, begin assembling the card. Start by positioning your lights. There are three LEDs that twinkle beautifully, so plan to place each behind one of the speech bubbles. Position your dies in place on the panel, securing with low tack tape and once satisfied with the placement, die-cut the background panel for the lights.
2. Trim the background panel by about 1/8 inch on each side to create a nice border. Apply double-sided tape to the back of the panel, overhanging one of the speech bubble holes. Slot the gold die-cut directly into the hole, flip the panel, and secure it with more tape. Repeat for the other two speech bubbles.
3. Break off one of the EZ-Light units from Pear Blossom Press, insert the battery, and test it. Use tape to hold the lights in place by pressing the wires into a strip of tape, then sealing them with another strip, creating a wire sandwich.
4. Test the lights again to ensure they’re in the right spot and still working. Test the button placement and tack it in place with a small piece of tape. Gently twist and tape down the wires, keeping the mess hidden.

Preparing for Mailing

1. To prevent the battery from depleting in transit, create separation between the battery and the component using a piece of foam tape release paper. Ensure it’s long enough to stick out for easy removal. This way, the recipient can simply pull the tab to activate the light.
2. Remove the rest of the release paper and adhere the panel to a side-folding A2 card made from 110lb Neenah Solar White. Raise the sentiment with foam squares for extra dimension. Mark the button area for the lights by embossing a small star stamp in white onto a gold heart die-cut, then glue it in place over the button. Finally, embellish with additional golden hearts and white clay hearts from your stash.
