Today, I’ve got something super exciting to share with you—a light-up birthday cake card! I’m joining forces with the lovely folks at Pear Blossom Press and Trinity Stamps for a fun video hop. So, make a wish and blow out the candle – No, REALLY!

Light Up Birthday Cake Card: Featuring Pear Blossom Press Candle Light & Trinity Stamps

1. Start with the Background: Grab your Trinity Stamps Colour Swatch Stencil and a coloured cardstock panel. Use low-tack tape to hold your stencil in place from behind. Begin ink blending, adding a lighter shade in the centre and deepening the colours towards the edges. Remove the stencil and deepen the outer edges even further with a darker ink. Lightly go over the whole panel again to soften the pattern. Once you’re happy with it, set it aside to dry.
2. Add Some Sparkle: Create a shimmer spray by mixing Perfect Pearls with water in a spritz bottle. Give it a good shake and lightly spritz the background panel. For some larger splotches, use the tube from the bottle to tap bigger droplets onto your background. Let everything dry before moving on.
3. Colouring the Cupcake: With your image already stamped in Versafine Onyx Black and embossed with Clear Gloss, you can colour it easily without worrying about smudging. I kept it simple and grabbed random markers, focusing on the leaves first to map out my colours. For the smaller sections, I used just two shades—no fancy blending needed! For larger areas, like the cupcake wrapper, I used three shades to create depth and give the illusion of a rounded shape.
4. Cut Out Your Image: I die-cut the cupcake image, but you can fussy cut if you don’t have the coordinating dies. To blend the image seamlessly into my dark background, I coloured the white edges of the image with a purple marker.

Make a Wish!

1. Adding the Magical Candle Light: This is where the magic happens! The Pear Blossom Press Candle Light fits perfectly behind the cupcake’s candle. Place it behind the flame, securing the battery pack with some double-sided adhesive. Make sure the light sensor isn’t covered by anything, as this is how the candle knows when to “blow out.”
2. Assemble Your Card: Add PBP Best Ever Foam Tape to the back of your image for dimension. Before sticking it down, I die-cut and stacked my sentiment pieces, arranging them at the top of the card. This is where I used the negative die-cut to ensure the spacing was just right. I stamped “Make a Wish” on the cupcake and used the Pear Blossom Press “Push Here” stamp to label the candle button.
3. Finishing Touches: To top off the card, I couldn’t resist using these stunning Trinity Stamps clay Butterfly embellishments. They are too cute and add the perfect extra touch of fun. And with that, the card is complete!
