Today I’m sharing this super easy tip for getting two cards from a single painting, using a simple die cut inlay technique.

This is the first episode in my new Altenew Educator Series; I will be sharing tips, techniques & ideas on the 3rd Saturday of each month.

I stamped the image on two separate pieces of Distress watercolour paper, using my MISTI to make sure that they were in exactly the same place on the each piece.

I have a video showing how I painted these large Statement Flowers with some of the watercolour markers from Altenew.

Once the painting was dry, I chose which area I wanted to spotlight, then ran my painted image through my die cut machine with one of the Diamond Fine Frames dies in place.

In order to make sure that the second image was die cut in exactly the same place, I put them on top of each other, with the already cut one on top, and slotted the Diamond die into place. When I ran this through my die cut machine it didn’t cut right the way through, but it did leave a mark that made it so easy to slot the diamond die in place on the second piece and run it through my die cut machine again.

I wanted to pop up the diamonds on each piece, so I also cut out several more diamonds from some mixed media paper I have got and glued them on top of each other. I had 3 x diamonds then the image diamond on top.

I backed the panel with some thin printer paper, so that I would have something to stick the spotlight panels to.

I used some black cardstock to replace the thin frame cut from each card panel before adding the switched round diamond image panels.

These cards are a further example of how I love to mix soft florals with bold geometric elements that I made whilst planning my AECP cardmaking workshop.

I finished off each card with a bold, black sentiment from Mega Label Love stamp set and some black glitter sequins for added sparkle.
