Crafting My Place In The World

Pride Month Day 7: Double the Rainbow, Double the Sparkle!

Hey Crafty People!

Ink blending, glitter, and rainbows? Yes please! Today I’m bringing back an old favourite card project, but I’ve given the tutorial a full refresh for Pride Month. This post walks you through two ways to use a gorgeous scalloped cover plate die to create beautiful rainbow effects with ink blending and superfine glitter.

Crafting during Pride isn’t just about rainbows – it’s about visibility, joy, resilience, and unapologetic creativity. Let’s keep celebrating that, every day.

Prepping the Panels

  1. Begin by ink blending your rainbow diagonally across a panel of Neenah 80lb cardstock. (Top tip: going diagonal means no pressure to keep your stripes straight!)
  2. Die cut your rainbow panel using the Altenew Scallops Cover Die.
  3. Press a piece of Press & Seal onto the back of the die while the little pieces are still in place – this will keep everything together neatly for the next steps!

Card 1 – Rainbow Ombre Arches

  1. Cover an A2 panel of cardstock with double-sided adhesive and remove the backing.
  2. Press this adhesive panel directly onto the Press ‘n’ Seal with the rainbow pieces still in place. Careful not to press the plastic down in those areas with adhesive still showing
  3. Gently lift the panel and check all pieces are secure. Replace the backing sheet and press firmly to lock them in.
  4. Over copy paper or a coffee filter, pour Gold Dust Sparkles superfine glitter over the exposed adhesive.
  5. Tap off the excess and burnish the glitter into place with your fingertips. Brush away any stray glitter.
  6. Trim the panel to 4 x 5.25 inches and adhere to an A2 card base (5.5 x 8.5 inches, scored at 4.25).
  7. Stamp sentiments from the Bold Sentiments stamp set in Obsidian ink. Trim right up to the black edges, and run a black marker along the cut edge for a clean finish.
  8. Adhere the sentiments using layered scrap cardstock for dimension, using different numbers of layers for fun.
  9. Finish with three white enamel dots.

Card 2 – Arched Rainbow

2 / 6
  1. Add double-sided adhesive to another A2 panel of cardstock.
  2. Peel one edge of the release paper and position the bottom row of your leftover die cut pieces onto the exposed adhesive.
  3. Slowly peel back more of the release paper, guiding the pieces into place as you go.
  4. Once happy, burnish all the pieces in place and remove the release sheet.
  5. Sprinkle Onyx glitter over the bottom half, tip off excess, then add Graphite glitter to the top half for a smooth blend.
  6. Burnish again to secure the glitter.
  7. Trim to size and mount to your A2 card base.
  8. Stamp a sentiment from the Eucalyptus Jar set in Obsidian ink and fussy cut once dry.
  9. Die cut a vellum label from the Labels & Tags die. Add sentiment with foam tape, and sandwich metallic thread underneath.
  10. Adhere the vellum piece to the card using strong liquid glue, hidden behind the sentiment and enamel dots.
  11. Finish with three white enamel dots.
