Hey Crafty People!
I joined some of the other Catherine Pooler Brand Advocates to celebrate World Cardmaking Day and had my own, real life ‘it was in this moment she knew she fluffed up’ experience!
So, the hop was Holidays themed and I completely dropped the bauble there, because I definitely didn’t make Holiday themed cards! ?? But I had too much fun not to share them anyway…so here are my two Safari animal peek-a-boo designs!
Swirling Leaves Hot Foil Plate Minus the Hot AND the Foil!
Starting with the backgrounds
- Position your hot foil plate onto an a2 panel of Neenah 80lb, and hold in place with some low tack tape. Position within your die cutting sandwich using your dry embossing plate. For a deeper impression, increase the pressure by adding a cardstock shim.
- Take another piece of Neenah 80lb and brayer One the Lake & With An Olive inks. Roll off excess ink onto your glass mat surface and apply the inks in different directions for added texture. Once you’re happy with the level of colour across your cardstock, add some extra detail & texture! Brayer One The Lake ink onto the Swirling Leaves hot foil plate and press your background down onto it, smoothing across to give you the best transfer. Set aside to dry.
Animal Peek-a-Boo
- For the yellow background to stamp your image onto, brayer Limoncello ink onto more Neenah 80lb, checking with your stamp that you have an area large enough. Allow this to dry.
- Stamp the solid, Giraffe image on top of the yellow, in Over Coffee. Die cut with the coordinating die.
- Die cut a circle from the busy background panel to be a backdrop for your Giraffe, but to help him stand out more, create an easy, drop shadow by die cutting a second Giraffe. Colour this by going direct to paper with On The Lake.
- Adhere the drop shadow layer behind the main image, and pop this up on a couple layers of scrap cardstock onto your circle before adding this to the dry embossed background with foam adhesive.
- Stamp a sentiment from Boho feathers, but do the first word, then reposition to stamp the rest underneath, rather than it being all on one line. Fussy cut and add onto the card with foam adhesive.
Heat Embossed Linear Pattern
Creating the Background
- Using a ruler and WOW Embossing pen, draw lines onto an a2 panel of Neenah 80lb. Add Lavender Fields embossing powder and heat set. Continue adding random & intersecting lines, then emboss with Blackberry embossing powder. Applying anti-static powder between layers will counteract any oils & moisture transferred from your hands.
- Using your WOW ink pad, apply a solid layer of ink from your lowest Lavender Fields line to the bottom of your panel and emboss with more Lavender Fields. Trim down 1/8th inch from each side and add to an a2 panel of light grey cardstock.
Animal Peek-a-Boo
- Create your Happy Hippo in the same way as your Giraffe, but use Pebble for the brayered layer and Hoodie for the stamped lines. Also stamp the Flower Crown in Wilted Violet. Die cut both images.
- Add some extra detail to the flowers with a WOW Embossing pen and emboss in Lavender Fields.
- Adhere the Crown onto the Hippo and trim the bottom into a straight line so that you can sit him on one of the embossed lines of the background.
- Die cut the Retro Love word die from 110lb cardstock, layering it twice. Press into the With An Olive pad to colour and whilst still damp, pour Verdant embossing powder on top & heat set. Adhere onto a white shadow.
- Stamp a sub sentiment from Boho Feathers by masking off the second half when inking the stamp. Trim into a small strip and glue on top of the Love die cut. Add the whole thing to your card panel.
Thank you so much for stopping by today, if you’re new here then I hope that you will consider subscribing.

Please be aware:
As part of my Design Team and Guest Design work I do often receive free products to use, but I only ever recommend products that I genuinely love.
Also, I know how incredibly lucky I am to have these opportunities, but you don’t always NEED the newest products or the ‘full set’.
So please don’t feel that you need everything.
I like to show a variety of brands and products; this way there will be something for everybody to enjoy.
