With a bit of simple masking, you can make a one layer card with the look of layers of images & background!
Whenever you are stamping/blending layers onto a single panel, you need to stamp out the image that you want to be at the very front. Then you mask that and work back in layers until you reach the last layer, or the furthest back of your design.
So here, I stamped my cute Doxie and added a present onto his back, onto a 3.5×6.5 inch panel. I also stamped both images onto a scrap of masking paper.
I wanted the background to go right up the images, so the dies wouldn’t work for this and the best way to do it is fussy cutting. Yeah, I know fussy cutting can be a bit of a pain, but these images were quick and simple to do!
Using a stencil and blending brush, I added the pattern around my images; Do-Si-Do makes for a soft background which doesn’t compete with them.
To get that soft, fading blend you just need to concentrate the ink right around your images and then blend out with the ink you have left on your brush. This naturally gives a soft and gradual blend, because you are just using the small amount of ink left on your brush rather than adding more.
I decided to shift my stencil over to add a small amount of ink to the area I was planning to stamp my sentiment onto, this balances the design a bit better. Using the same inks for my sentiment, rather than adding black, for example, keeps the overall design bright and balanced.
