Hey Crafty People!
Did you see this month’s Clubs from Spellbinders?!! SO Good!!! Today, I’m sharing inspiration using both the Small & Stitching dies of the month!
Small Die of the Month – Breezy
This set includes all of the pieces to create a lady with long flowing hair & dress, swinging on a swing. It’s so beautiful and I am low-key obsessed with how this card came out. (Can you tell that I made this after watching the new Barbie movie?)
Step-by-step
- Die cut each of the pieces from coloured cardstock to make the whole process so much easier & quicker; don’t forget to position your sentiment die on the dress piece and run that through a second time to give you the sentiment which follows the flow of the skirt perfectly. Add shading to the face, neck, legs, arms & hair to bring some depth & dimension. I used Copic markers to add the shading, but you could use whatever medium you feel most confident in.
- Using liquid glue, layer up all of the pieces to create your lady, on her swing. Once you have assembled her, add a second layer to your main dress area; this gives a natural shadow which really does make the whole thing pop that bit more! Set her aside to work on the background.
- Die cut two layers of pink flower using the flower dies in the set, press down into the centres of them using a ball tool on flower forming foam to give the petals a little lift and help shape the flower. Glue the smaller one on top of the other and then adhere them to the waistline of your lady’s dress.
- Cut down an a2 panel of light blue cardstock, and add more interest & depth with ink blending. Use 2-3 shades of blue ink, blending from the bottom left hand corner, out towards the opposite corner, creating a natural ombre with darker inks not extending as far as the previous colour.
- Splatter the blue background panel with silvery metallic watercolour and set aside to dry.
- Cut the 2nd largest HexiGem layering die from the centre of a white A2 panel, line the back of this with a layer of foam adhesive.
- Position your swinging lady within the HexiGem window, so that she is swinging out of the window itself. Adhere the ends of the swing’s ropes behind the panel and add a layer of foam tape to support the parts of the lady’s dress and feet that sit out of the window, removing the backing to adhere thes parts to the white panel.
- Now add a double layer of foam adhesive behind the rest of your lady, this way she will sit higher than the window panel which really makes it look like she is swinging out of it!
- Adhere the whole thing onto your blue panel.
- Embellish with adhesive gems, including adding one to the centre of your flower.

Stitching Die of the Month
This set is a background panel with cutouts and debossed lines which mark out where each of the added flower & leaf die cuts can go. You also get the flowers & leaves which can all be stitched along with a sentiment that can sit in the centre of the panel. (This works both portrait & landscape.)
Step-by-step
- Die cut the background panel that is included in this set, from white cardstock. Add colour to it, using several shades of purple ink. Create a natural highlight in the centre, by using your lightest ink there and deepening the colour as you move out towards the edge of the panel. (Work in circular motions, from the outside, towards the centre and don’t take each of the colours in as far as the last one, getting increasingly darker as you move through your shades.)
- To increase the drama, add a deep blue around the very edges of the panel.
- Layer this panel on top of a white panel to give some contrast behind the cut-out sections.
- Die cut the sentiment included in the set from 3x white layers and stack these with a gold layer on top.
- Next, die cut the flowers from white and the leaves from the same Gold mirror cardstock.
- Add some colour to each of the white flowers, using the same inks from the background.
- Now add some stitching to the flowers; this one is SUPER easy to do, you just feed through the centre, wrapping round to the outside and back up through the centre. Secure the ends on the back of each one with some yellow tape. Use metallic thread for som extra glitz!
- Position the sentiment and all of the flowers/leaves using a mix of liquid & foam adhesive then adhere a gem to the centre of each flower.
- Glimmer a sub sentiment with Matte Gold foil, trim into a strip and add to the card with foam adhesive.
