Watercolour Practice & Succulents

Hello crafty people!

Within this crazy, upside down world we are living in right now, I decided to carve out some calming time just my paints & I.

It’s so easy to forget during all of this that we need to look after our mental health. It would be so easy to sink into a sea of anxiety; to drown within my own fears.

The most important thing we can do is acknowledge that this is not easy. Practice self compassion. There are no road maps to guide us through this, and we are all doing the best we can.

We have to accept that we cannot control the uncontrollable.

It is that notion that drew me to watercolour right now; it is such a good reminder that beauty can come from the uncontrolled.

So I sat and added water and pigment to the paper and just watched it spread out. I think it’s a brilliant exercise in mindfulness, sitting and being in that moment.

Once the painting were dry I fussy cut them and added each one to an ‘ink smooshed’ background I made using Distress Inks. I liked the chaotic nature of the background against a calming plant.

I added a sentiment strip from the stash I keep on my desk! (This is a great time saver.)

Mental Health isn’t something we can just ‘achieve’ or get courtesy of a magic pill. It is something that can ebb & flow; anxiety is something we must battle time & again. It is hard, but the first step is always admitting to yourself that you need to pick up your armour as the battle begins again.
