3 Ways With Washi | Altenew Educator Video Series

Hey Crafty People!

Welcome back for another episode of my Altenew Educator Series; this month I’m showing you 3 ways to use washi tape in your cardmaking for a real WOW factor!

Card 1 | Focal Element

This Narrow Rainbow washi tape is so beautiful that I wanted to use it as the focal point for this slimline design.

I added a simple die cut hello, that I super stepped up with some Black Onyx Sparkles from WOW! They are super fine, and I cut the sentiment with some double sided adhesive sheet on the paper. Once you’ve burnished the glitter down it is stuck and won’t budge!

A simple die cut butterfly accent is all it needs.

Card 2 | Background Accent

I love using these thinner washi tapes as an accent that ties together the elements of the design.

Here, the Delicate Polka Dots washi does just that; the dots reflect the dotted detail layer of Calming Reverie, whilst also picking up the white background and dark black sentiment.

The line of tape also physically touches the large floral image which anchors it to the design. (*I talk a lot about anchoring your elements in my Modern, Clean & Simple Cardmaking Workshop, which I am running again on 28th February 3pm UTC $5 – craftyswiftie13@yahoo.com for enquiries.)

Card 3 | Die Cutting Washi

I had fun die cutting washi and layering it onto coloured cardstock to get a different look from the semi opaque tape.

*I stressed in the video, that I have only had success doing this with Altenew washi tape, and whilst this doesn’t mean other brands won’t work, it just means that of the tapes I have tried this is the only success I’ve had.

The tape and cardstock die cut beautifully and I had no issues with the tape peeling up, at all. I layered the leaves around a stamped sentiment.
