AAA Card Challenge #159 – CAS, One Corner

Game #159 over at AAACards is to make a clean & simple card with the design being on 1 corner. I also chose to make this a 1 layer card.

I stamped out this image from Altenew’s Succulent stamp set using Gina K Obsidian Amalgam ink because it is alcohol marker friendly and I wanted to colour it in with my Promarkers/Brushmarkers & Copics.

I kept to a really simple colouring method, using 3 colours for all of the leaves; I coloured each leaf with all 3 colours but I just varied the amount of each one in order to make the leaf either lighter or darker.

I just did a quick layer of the lightest shade of green in order to help the colours blend nicely, then I added the darkest colour to the base of the leaf, flicking the colour up in the direction of growth. Then I added the mid tone, starting just before where I’d taken the darkest to, before finishing with the a sweep of the lightest colour to blend the whole leaf.

I wanted the pot to look terracotta, so I chose 2 oranges; a dark and a midtone and then Copic E50 which would tone down the oranges as it blended them out.

The most important thing with the pot is to be careful to make your strokes go the right way; this is a rounded object and in order to make it appear that way you need to curve your strokes. This is what makes a HUGE difference when trying to make an object appear 3D; making sure the shadows and highlights are in the right place.

I added one of the sentiments from the Succulents stamp set in Versafine black ink, which is my go-to ink for sentiments, and then I finished it off with some black dot accents.
