Two-For-One Masked Ink Blending

The sentiments for these cards come from two of the sets from this amazing release; I really do love a bold sentiment and a vibrant splash of colour so I had to choose these two cards as my first to share during this exciting campaign! (I have LOTS more inspiration coming your way over the next month!)

Crafty Recipe:

1. Trim a sheet of masking paper to the same size as your finished card panel (I used a2) and tear a strip from each side; you should be left with 3 pieces, and they don’t have to be a certain width/size etc.
2. Carefully apply the two edge strips to a panel of Neenah 80lb. Make sure that the edges are well adhered to the panel to avoid any ink bleeding and to ensure you get the crispest edge possible.
3. Ink blend an ombre of colours onto the centre of the panel, covering from one mask to the other. To get the best edge you should overlap your colour onto the masking to ensure that you don’t miss anywhere.
   I used Catherine Pooler inks; Pucker Up, Do-Si-Do and Catching Rays.
4. Spritz a little clean, clear water onto the ink and let it sit for a moment before lifting with a paper towel. This will give some really interesting texture, and it’s also a great way to disguise any issues with the ink blending. Set aside to dry FULLY before you remove the mask or you might rip your cardstock.
5. For a one layer card, stamp your sentiment and any additional elements first with deep black ink, then repeat steps 2-4
   To change things up, I chose some cool tone colours here; In The Park & Cummerbund, then I spritzed the panel with some water & Perfect Pearls for some added shimmer.
   I used the Birthday Sentiments stamp set.
6. Once your panels are completely dry, (I left mine overnight) slowly peel back the masking paper to reveal those beautiful, organic edges.
7. Stamp and fussy cut a sentiment from the Hello, Lovely stamp set and pop this up on some foam tape for added dimension.
8. For some added detail, embellish with your favourite gems/enamel dots.

PRO TIP!

Make sure that your sentiment is totally dry before you stick the masking paper over the top, I didn’t and when I lifted the masking some of the ink came away with it too. Oooops! I like to have a really dark, black matte pen that I can use for just these kinds of moments. So that pen came to the rescue and you’d never even know there was an issue!
