Crafting My Place In The World

Altenew 9th Anniversary Blog Hop Day 2 + Giveaway (over $2,500 in Total Prizes)

Hey Crafty People

Woohoo!!! We’re celebrating Altenew’s 9th Anniversary with style and I’m joining in today’s blog hop!

Im sharing some of my absolute FAVOURITE Altenew makes from the last year to celebrate another fabulous year of Altenew making all of our lives prettier!

Mixed Media Decor Pieces

I’ve had some canvas boards in my stash for the longest time and I decided to finally break them out to create some room decor using my Altenew supplies.

The canvas boards themselves are a UK size A6 which is roughly 4 1/8? X 5 7/8?, so they’re a really nice size. Before I started creating my pieces, I coated both of the boards with some Gesso; this just helps to prepare the boards for the multiple layers that I’m planning to add onto them.I decided to create two projects, one for each of my daughters’ rooms and I let them look through my Altenew stash to choose the colors and products they wanted me to use.

Promotional Offer!

Canvas Panel 1

  1. Using a Large Blending Tool, I added Citrus Burst Crisp Dye Ink onto one side of the canvas, and Arctic Crisp Dye Ink onto the other. You can blend ink straight onto the Gesso, but I did use my heat tool on low, to speed up the drying process.
  2. Onto my media mat, I mixed some of these Texture Paste with a few drops of the Honey Drizzle Re-inker, to get a texture Paste that matches my project. Then I used a pallet knife to add this paste, through the Fine Tulle Stencil in random areas.
  3. Before it dried, I sprinkled on some clear & some gold ultra high embossing powders. I didn’t want to cover the whole stenciled area; I was after a much more distressed finish.
  4. Then, I heated the powder & paste to give me a bubbly, textured finish. (If you want to keep your texture paste smoother, then just set it aside to dry once the powders are in place, before heat setting them.)I quite like the bubbled look – plus, I’m super impatient!
  5. Using the Patchwork Kite Stencil, I added Persian Blue Crisp Dye Ink over the blue and Fresh Lemon Crisp Dye Ink over the yellow part. This gives a really nice tone-on-tone effect, whereby you can see the lighter color in the fine lines that the stencil masks. (I ink blended over the top of all of the paste & embossing, and I like the way that the rough texture catches more of the ink in some places than others.)
  6. For a sentiment, I cut the shadow for the large You Matter Die from some of the Ocean Reflection Glitter Cardstock and added the main word from 110lb Neenah. I also cut one of the sub sentiments from the same set, from the same blue glitter cardstock, backing it with white Neenah to help it stand out nicely.
  7. I die cut the envelope from 110lb white cardstock and for those gorgeous hearts, I added double sided adhesive to some Vellum and die cut so that the adhesive was on top. Then I added different shades of WOW Essentials Sparkles
  8. Now I had all of my elements, it was time to glue it all down? I did this using a mixture of liquid glue, and Instant Dimension Foam Tape, for added dimension. I absolutely LOVE how this turned out!!!

Canvas Panel 2

  1. For this second project, I inked the whole canvas with Caribbean Sky Crisp Dye Ink and added Persian Blue Crisp Dye Ink around the outside. This is a really quick & easy way to take your ink blended panels to a whole other level!!! (I sped up the drying again with my heat tool.)
  2. I used the same Fine Tulle Stencil to add transparent texture paste, randomly over the piece. Before adding more of that clear embossing powder and heat set it all again.
  3. My next step was to add a trail of blue stars, using the Milky Way Stencil and Sapphire Crisp Dye Ink. (I also added another couple of partial trails at the same time.)I set this aside to let all that ink dry really well, whilst I worked on my focal point.
  4. I find that the easiest way to blend a die-cut butterfly using the Bountiful Butterflies Set is to die cut before I create the image. This just helps ensure that everything will fit inside the die-cut nicely. To get a nice variation in color, I used three inks for each section of the wings. The top wings are Fresh Lemon, Orange Cream & Autumn Blaze Crisp Dye Ink and the lower wings are Orange Cream, Autumn Blaze & Firebrick. I concentrated the darker color where the wings meet the body, allowing that to fade out across the wing are. I also used Pure Graphite Crisp Dye Ink for the body & antennae. The detail brushes are amazing for getting into the small spaces on these stencils!
  5. For my sentiment, I chose the All About You Word Die Set; cutting the shadow from cardstock with a Double-Sided Adhesive Sheet on top. I’ve used the adhesive to allow me to add foil onto the die-cut. (I chose a Rose Gold transfer foil!)I did this for the sentiment to really stand out, again.I wanted to have my sentiment say “You are Amazing” – so I cut the word ‘are’ from the “You Matter Die Set”.
  6. Once the ink was dry on the background, I used the other side of the Milky Way Stencil to layer up some more stars over the main ones we already had.
  7. Then using my palette knife, I added some Tacky When Dry paste; this will give me stars which I can add foil to, once this is fully dry. (It’s easy to tell as it goes on white and dries clear.) I chose a light blue foil for my stars and I love the way it adds some shine to my background!
  8. To finish the piece, I added all of the elements onto the panel, again using a mixture of liquid adhesive and foam tape.

Again, this card is part of the Class at Altenew Academy. For this second project, I inked the whole canvas with Caribbean Sky Crisp Dye Ink and added Persian Blue Crisp Dye Ink around the outside. This is a really quick & easy way to take your ink blended panels to a whole other level!!! (I sped up the driving again with my heat tool.)

Easy Mixed Media Meets Handmade Card

  1. Stamp the Typewriter Flowers image onto a trimmed down & watercoloured panel with Obsidian ink. (Using a MISTI will let you restamp in the exact same place, which is something definitely needed when stamping onto textured cardstock.) Set aside to dry.
  2. Add strips of Gold Stripe Washi tape onto an a2 panel of Neenah 80lb, offset from one side of the panel, beyond the centre towards the other.
  3. Measure where to stamp your sentiment, using the image strip and then stamp with Obsidian.
  4. Pop up the panel using foam adhesive.
  5. Whilst no colouring is necessary at all, I did decide to up the dimension with some light shading using a coloured pencil…but this is DEFINITELY completely optional.

Ink Blending A White Flower

  1. Stamp out several flowers & foliage along with the Frame image with Obsidian ink onto Neenah 80lb cardstock and allow to dry fully.
  2. To colour these flowers white, you just need to skip the first stencil layer and add some very light grey ink using the second layer. Then add slightly darker grey using the third layer. That pale grey works as a shadow which makes the flowers look more 3d.
  3. Ink blend the flower centre and the foliage following the steps on the stencil set.
  4. Die cut all of the pieces and set aside.
  5. Colour the frame using the blue markers from the new Beach Garden marker set and then die cut this too.
  6. Adhere Silver mirror cardstock behind the frame opening and then attach the flowers & leaves using a combination of liquid glue & foam adhesive.
  7. Dry emboss an a2 panel with the Chequered Diamonds 3d embossing folder and pop up the frame with more foam tape.
  8. Stamp a sentiment then trim this and attach with more foam tape.
