Creative Masking

The single most important thing to consider when you want to use masking to create any type of scene is your positioning.
Whatever you want to be in the foreground needs to be the thing that you stamp first, then you mask that and work backwards.

I stamped one of the flowers, working through each layer and then I covered it with a mask that I fussy cut to avoid any white halo round my designs.
Continuing in this way, I stamped two flowers and three pairs of leaves, masking as I went.

Before peeling the masks off I used the Fine Tulle stencil and a domed foam ink blender to add some subtle shine using Altenew’s Gold Pigment ink.
The sentiment is from the Lily BAF stamp set too.

Favourite Colour Pairings

There are a few colour combinations of mine that I keep coming back to over & over, because I just love how they look together. One of these combinations is the Sea Shore & Cherry Blossoms ink families.

I stamped a single Lily using the first 3 inks from Cherry Blossoms then I swapped out the darkest colour for that same Gold Pigment ink to add a touch of gold to the details.
I also stamped out 3 leaves using the same greens as my last card, and die cut all of the images.

For my background, I used an ombre blend of the Sea Shore inks, cutting it using one of the Mix & Match Frame dies, before adhering it to an a2 panel of Neenah 80lb. Then, adding my images with Instant Dimension foam tape.

The die cut sentiment is from the small Essential Greetings set, and I stacked up 2x white die cuts with a Gold Pearl one on top. A few Satin White sequins finish the design off beautifully.

I really love how this card turned out, and I know that the whole design came together so quickly because I was using a well loved colour scheme. So, if you ever find yourself at a bit of a creative brick wall, then try choosing a colour scheme that you’ve loved working with in the past; it can be just the right spark you need to get creative!

  1. Wow! Both are great, but the pink and tall blows my socks off. I can see why you love this combo.

  2. Great project shares for the set. Nice color mixes. I would like to see the first card’s background in video form for a clearer view on how the stenciling was done.

  3. Two lovely cards. The golden flower brings back childhood memories. Thank you for sharing.

  4. Thanks for the tips on designing the card. Love your cards. Love the tulle background.

  5. Both cards are just lovely but my favorite is the first. The soft colors and background is wonderful.

  6. These are beautiful cards with such lovely flowers! They are so realistic looking.

  7. Gorgeous cards. I love those beautiful lilies and I love your backgrounds, especially the first one — so unique!
