A Touch Of Sparkle

For this card, I used the CAF die set twice to cut all of the pieces that I would need for a larger bundle of Blossoms; I’m not going to lie, it took a while to get all of these put together. However, once you’ve put them together once it’s definitely easier…and therefore quicker!

I wanted a hint of the glitter to show through on each of my blossoms, so I cut the base layers from some of the Gilded glitter cardstock.

Before adding any colour to the rest of my cardstock, I roughly measured and cut down a piece of Neenah 80lb which would be big enough for each of the dies. After I had got the pieces organised, I took my ink pads direct to paper to get a fully saturated colour, really quickly. I chose to use slightly darker colours for one of the sets to give me a really nice contrast throughout the bouquet.
Finally, I added double sided adhesive sheet to the back before running them through my die cutting machine.

I kept each ‘set’ of the die cuts together so that I wouldn’t be getting confused between them when assembling the flowers and I really just worked off the layering guide that you get in the included tri-fold booklet.
After finishing my flowers, I repeated the steps with the leaves too.

Creating A Splash [Background]

I thought these pale peach toned floral blossoms would really pop off a blue background and I was feeling a bit ‘mixed-media’. First of all, I grabbed out a few of my Watercolour Brush Markers in a variety of blue shades along with an a2 panel of watercolour cardstock, some acetate and the AWESOME new Fine Mister bottle.

I just scribbled some of the watercolour from the markers, onto the acetate and lightly spritzed it with the Fine Mister, before turning the acetate over and pressing the pigment down onto the a2 panel. Quickly drying the panel between applications allows the colour to really build up and gives you a whole host of fun tones & textures.

This technique gives you a really organic distribution of the colour, which is really based upon how much water you apply. The spray bottle that I normally use often gives out quite large drops of water which doesn’t get to all of the pigment; so you can get some areas with lots of water but not much pigment. Conversely, you get areas with pigment that doesn’t have enough water and here you’ll get harsh areas of strong colour that just soak straight into the paper.

I have to say this new bottle really does give an incredibly fine spritz which is perfect for techniques like this!!!

Assembling…

Firstly, I added a vellum leaves die cut to give a little extra texture behind the Blossoms. Then I started to plan out where I wanted the florals, and once I was happy with the arrangement I added some low tack tape to keep it all together. Next, I was able to lift the arrangement in one piece and turn it over so that I could add adhesive to the back of it; starting with liquid glue on the flowers which were at the very back and would be sat against the background.

The low tack tape allows me to then turn the whole thing back over and position it where I wanted it to the on the background panel. At the same time, this also secures the die cut vellum leaves by sandwiching it between the two.

I lifted the other florals up, still on the tape by carefully peeling it back from the adhered flowers. For dimension, I added small pieces of foam tape to the back of these before laying them back in place.

Lastly, I added a stacked up, die cut sentiment.
