Hey Crafty People
Welcome to the Altenew Craft Your Life Project Kit: Florescence Release Blog Hop + Giveaway!!!
The hop will be packed full of awesome inspiration using the brand new Craft Your Life Project Kit for May; Florescence. If you’ve not seen one of these new releases before then you are surely in for a treat!!!
Each month the kits will consist of stamps, dies, stencils & embossing folders that are created to coordinate beautifully with each other.
These products will be exclusive to the kit and won’t be available to purchase separately; the value really is AMAZING!
Whilst this post is part of the release hop, you’ll find techniques here that you can easily use with your own crafty stash if you aren’t shopping for new products right now! ??
Underpainting Succulents
(Whilst I’m aware that these are supposed to be flowers, I just can’t help it; I saw Succulents, so that’s what I decided to paint for my first design.)
I stamped the image onto a piece of Bristol Smooth cardstock, using Obsidian Pigment ink before quickly heat setting it. (Because I’m too impatient to wait for it to dry on its own!)
This technique is really simple to do, as it just involves painting across the whole image with watered down colours that will become a base for you to paint each image over. You might choose to underpaint with the same colours you plan to use later, alternatively you could choose different colours.
I also chose to let the underpainting bleed out of the edges of the image which is a look I just really love.
Once that layer is totally dry, you just paint each image in your chosen colours right over that underpainting. As you can see, the colour which is underneath will affect the resulting colour of your image; this is especially evident in the yellow flowers that I have throughout this design.
Check out my video tutorial, to see exactly how I made this card.

Embossing, Both Heat & Dry…
This time, I heat embossed the image in white, again on Bristol Smooth before colouring using more of the Watercolour Brush Markers.
I just added some of the colour directly from the brush, to the base of the petal/leaf, before using some water on a detailed brush to draw that colour out towards the tips. I used a lighter colour to paint the background space between the images, just to help those images stand out.
For my background, I embossed an a2 panel with the embossing folder from this CYL kit, and then popped the die cut painting up on some Instant Dimension foam tape.
The sentiment is stamped in Lagoon for a softer look, and I have embellished with Satin White sequins.
