Card 1 – White Vellum Florals
I remembered one of Erum’s Altenew video submissions where she created these beautifully soft white on vellum flowers and I’ve wanted to recreate that look for ages, so I heat embossed the image onto vellum and began adding further detail to the back of the image.
I first used a white POSCA pen to add some shading right in the deepest shadows, before swapping to a white pencil crayon to blend that all out further.
I absolutely love the soft, subtle shading that it adds to the image, when you put further colour onto the back of vellum. It’s such a quick & easy way to step up an image, especially because it is such a forgiving technique; the vellum will automatically soften any colour that you add.
Next I ink blended a background for my flowers using the large blending tool; I chose the Sea Shore family of inks and made an ombre panel with the ink fading off to white.
It’s so easy to blend a full card panel with the large blending tools and I find that achieving that soft, gradual fade to white is effortless with these!
I added some white shimmery splatter using the Metallic Watercolour Set and set it aside to dry.
I haven’t got the coordinating die, so I fussy cut my vellum flowers and I adhered them to the background panel with tiny dots of glue behind the embossing.
Vellum will show any glue through, so adding it behind the embossing is the perfect way to conceal it.
For my greeting, I stacked up 3x thanks die cuts from the Simple Greetings set, and added some Satin white sequins as accents.
Card 2 – Ombre Stripes with Gold
I went back to my tried & true ink swiping for my next card; still keeping to the same colours and an ombre effect. I created swipes of each of the inks, going horizontally across the panel, but adding a wave into it rather than a straight line.
I also added more than one swipe to get more colour onto the stripes than one swipe would afford me.
I used one of the golds from the Metallic Watercolour Set, adding a single stripe across each of my ink swipes.
SUPER simple and easy background idea, and the gold elevates it so much!
This time I embossed the flowers in Gold onto vellum and fussy cut them again.
This time I centred the image more and attached in the same way as before.
I went for a stacked Hello sentiment for this design, and more of the satin white sequins. To be sure that the flowers couldn’t go anywhere, I additionally added dots of glue behind the sentiment and sequins.
Card 3 – Experimenting with Colour & Texture
I had originally created this third white flower to go on the first card, but I couldn’t make it work, so I decided to use it on another card.
I added vertical ink swipes in Sea Shore inks and the first & third inks from the Glacier Caves family, layering them all to give me some different colours too.
I grabbed out the Milky Way stencil because this was one of the first Altenew products that I owned, so I thought it would work perfectly for this hop!
I added stars that went across all of the ink swipes, then I adhered the single white flower over the top of it; I like the way that you can still see the texture and colour through the vellum, but it’s softened.
I stacked the hello you sentiment and attached it onto the ink blending/swiping and finished it off with the same Satin White Sequins.
