Today, I’m sharing a super mixed media design along with ideas for creating vintage ephemera pieces. I’m using the die cuts that come in February’s My Monthly Hero Kit, but these ones are a far cry from the clean, bright florals that you’re provided with.

Creating Vintage Ephemera Pieces

1. Begin by ink blending Root Beer Reactive ink over a selection of the floral ephemera pieces. Make sure to cover any white sections and it will also tone down the bright colours too. After covering all of the pieces, swipe the edges of each piece across the ink pad.
2. Splatter all of the ephemera pieces with Root Beer ink, and Unicorn White pigment ink. Set aside to dry.
3. Lay all of the pieces out next to each other and then, stamp them with Novel Prose Bold Print in more Unicorn White pigment ink. Leave to dry. (You may need to do them in a couple of batches, depending on how many you are making!)
4. Now, swipe Mined Foundry Wax onto the pieces in random areas with a paintbrush. Heat for a few seconds, until it turns metallic. Go back in with a second coat in some places, applying with your finger for a thicker layer. Heat set again.

Creating the Background

1. Ink blend an a2 panel of Strong White cardstock in Pool Party and Blue Raspberry Reactive inks. Use the Sun Stencil from February’s MMH Kit to add some extra texture.
2. Apply Root Beer Reactive ink through the same stencil; apply more ink in some areas than others for a distressed feel.
3. Ink blend Root Beer around the edges of the panel with a domed foam blender tool and then swipe the ink pad directly onto the edges of the panel. (Let the ink pad jump and skip onto the panel wherever it naturally wants to whilst you swipe it.
4. After allowing to dry, stamp with the same Novel Prose Bold Print in Unicorn White Pigment ink.
5. Lastly, for some extra detail, apply more Foundry Wax onto the panel and heat set.

Bring it all together:

1. Stamp & emboss a sentiment from the Cosmos & Lavender stamp set in WOW Metallic Copper EP. Die cut your sentiment and then stack on top of 1-2 additional die cuts for extra dimension.
2. Screw up a piece of vellum, to give it lots of texture, then tear into pieces that can slot behind and between your ephemera pieces.
3. Layer everything up with a mixture of foam adhesive & liquid glue. Lastly, adhere your sentiment on top.
