Lil Patch of Crafty Friends Challenge #124 – New DT Member!

I want to start off this post with the very exciting news that I have been asked to join the Lil Patch of Crafty Friends Design Team.

I am so excited about this fantastic opportunity and so very grateful to Joy of JoyfullyStamps for giving me my very first Design Team spot.

The sponsor for this challenge is Morgan’s Artworld. I love the mix of products available from this store; from their digital stamps & patterned paper right through to jigsaws & cross stitch patterns!

There is a wonderful fantasy theme throughout their artwork, but they have a mix of both cartoon style drawings along with the more ‘realistic’ image you can see here in their sponsor badge. I definitely recommend checking them out, and I would like to extend my gratitude for the image I chose to use for this challenge.

*This section is all about my experience trying out digital stamps for the first time, so feel free to skip down to the artwork and sponsor details if you want to*

I have to admit that I have never used a digital stamp before, and when I have seen other artists refer to them I have been somewhat perplexed about what they actually are.

I am of the generation that grew up with computers and smartphones being the norm, which allows me a degree of easy confidence when exploring technology but I was a little bit intimidated by how to actually print and then use the image once I received it.

I only have a standard inkjet printer and slightly ageing laptop at my disposal, and I feared that neither would be up to the task ahead. I decided to spend some time testing out the printer’s capabilities along with how the ink would react with various colouring mediums. After a bit of research I decided to heat set the print out with my heat gun and then set about colouring & documenting the results.

Despite heat setting the ink bled when introduced to even the smallest amount of water so I quickly decided that my watercolours were out. But I was very pleasantly surprised by the ink’s ability to withstand alcohol markers! So I decided that my Copic and Winsor & Newton markers were the way to go.

I chose this adorable little fairy called Stardust

One of the great things about digital stamps is that you can re-size them whilst keeping their proportions intact. I experimented a few times with what size I wanted her to be, along with the colour combinations I wanted to use.

Once I had finished colouring this little cutie, I added some Wink of Stella to her wings for that magic, glittering look. Then I fussy cut her out and set about making a background to put her onto.

I blended some Distress Oxide in Peacock Feathers across a card panel, masking off a straight line at the bottom and allowing the ink to fade off naturally at the top. I hit that with my heat gun to dry it off a little, then I added some Nuvo Glimmer Paste in Moonlight through a stencil.

The sentiment is from a Lawn Fawn stamp set; I embossed it in Metallic Silver super fine embossing powder from WOW! and added a strip of silver mirror card.

I matted my card panel onto some more of that silver mirror card and added a few gems here & there for some added sparkle.

I’m really looking forward to seeing all of the wonderful artwork you all come up with for this challenge, so don’t forget to visit the challenge blog and link up your own project.

I would love to see any projects you have made yourself using any of the wonderful artwork by this month’s challenge sponsor Morgan’s Artworld. Whether that is with something that you already own or something that you have purchased after seeing the inspiration by any of our wonderful Design Team over at Lil Patch of Crafty Friends.
