Christmas In July! Snow Globe Shaker

I did it!! I finally made my first Christmas card of the year!! When I saw this cute image from this month’s sponsor I knew I had to make it into a snow globe!!!

Thank you so much to Ching-Chou Kuik who are our sponsors for this challenge and who kindly supplied me with this image to use.

I coloured it using a mixture of my Copics and Brushmarkers, then fussy cut it and got my shaker & snowflake pieces together.

I purchased a Snow Globe cut file from Silhouette Studio and cut out all of the pieces I’d need from a mixture of Neenah 80lb and some silver mirror card i had in my stash.

I ink blended some Hero Arts Cornflower onto the background piece of the cut file; I wasn’t too worried about getting a really even coverage because I knew that most of it would end up covered by my image, plus I quite liked the white showing through in places because I feel it looks like a snowy sky!

I added my image onto the background piece, then stacked up 5 of the snow globe outline cuts which make up the walls of my shaker.

I used Nuvo Deluxe adhesive to attach my silver outline to some acetate and trimmed the acetate very carefully so that it was flush to the outer edges of my snow globe.

When I was cutting the pieces that are included in the cut file I also cut down two pieces heavyweight card stock in the shape of the final snow globe once the pieces are assembled. This was easy enough to do, I just placed the upper and lower cut files together and erased the cut lines from between them.

I scored across the top of one of these pieces and then attached the two together using some very strong tape, only across the uppermost portions, above the score line, this allows the front piece to lift and open as any card would but gives me a custom shaped card base! I decided that would be much more exciting than attaching the snow globe to a standard card base.

I added some silver star confetti to my shaker and used the same Nuvo adhesive to glue the two piece together, sealing my shaker.

TIP: It’s really important that you leave the shaker flat with something on it, an acrylic block maybe, to allow the glue to really seal the window and also to allow it tike to fully dry. If you lift it up to shake it too soon then your bits & pieces inside could get stuck in the glue!! (This is also why I always use liquid glue rather than tape; then I know for sure that there is no uncovered adhesive to trap my shaker bits.

I die cut ‘Believe’ by My Favourite Things from blue glitter stock and glued all of the seperate pieces together on my card base.

I’m really excited about this design and I will definitely be making more for special Christmas cards!! Having my Cameo helped hugely with this and cut the make time down by a ton!!!!

I’m really interested to know, have you made any Christmas cards yet? And if so, when did you make your first? I am doing so much better than last year, it was December before I even started!!!!!
