Hello lovelies and welcome back to my blog,
It’s your birthday, so throw acts of kindness around like confetti
Timeout Inspired by Words
I was asked to make a personalised card for a special little boy who turned 2 this last weekend, and I just knew I had to use this adorable stamp from Avery Elle. I think it is just so cute!! All of the animals are popping out of the box, and I thought that would be perfect for this month’s challenge.
I stamped it using Gina K Amalgam ink, because it is copic friendly; I used a mixture of Copic and Windsor & Newton alcohol markers to lay down a first layer of colour.
I always do this, then layer some pencil crayon over the top to add more definition because I am most comfortable doing that. I used my new pencil crayons Arteza; this was my very first time playing with them, so I will let you know how well I feel they work once I’ve had more chances to really get a feel for them.
Once I was happy with how my animals were looking I fussy cut the whole image, ready to pop onto my card panel with some foam tape later on.
I wanted to add a birthday banner that could hold the recipients name, so I drew out a banner shape and added my greeting. I used different colours and a ‘messy’ letter style with random splats of colour; I wanted it to look like the animals had made it with paint. I fussy cut the banner out and used a craft knife to cut around the Rabbit’s paw & the Owl’s wing; that way I could slot the banner just underneath and have it look as though the animals are holding it themselves. I’m really happy with how that turned out.
I blended some Unicorn white dye ink from Hero Arts through an unbranded sun blast stencil to give the background some action and interest. This set comes with 2 confetti stamps, so I stamped them lots of times and coloured them in using the same colours as I used for the banner message. I added them all around the animals; spending more time than I am willing to admit to get them looking random, but in a controlled way.
A heat embossed vellum strip, a blue matting layer and silver stitched detail finished this card off.
I’m really happy with how this turned out! I love the sense of movement the stencilled ‘burst’ background creates.
In terms of the colouring, I am by far most happy with the way that the little puppy turned out; I think that this is the first time that I’ve managed to pull off the look of a white object that still has some dimension.
Hey Crafty People!
Please be aware:
As part of my Design Team and Guest Design work I do often receive free products to use, but I only ever recommend products that I genuinely love.
Also, I know how incredibly lucky I am to have these opportunities, but you don’t always NEED the newest products or the ‘full set’.
So please don’t feel that you need everything.
I like to show a variety of brands and products; this way there will be something for everybody to enjoy.
