Heffy Doodle and Artesprix Collaboration Blog Hop

Hey Crafty People!

Welcome to the Heffy Doodle and Artesprix Collaboration Blog Hop!Hop along as our fabulous designers show you how to use these amazing Artesprix products with your card making stash. There’s so many ways to get creative with these sublimation goodies, and we are excited to show you more ways to use your Heffy Doodle products.

I’ve never tried Sublimation before, so I was really excited to have a play! Artesprix were kind enough to send me a few of their products to try and I’ll be honest; I was a little bit nervous at first!

After trying a few different things out, I think I caught the Sublimation bug!!! ?

So I’m sharing two projects today that use a couple of different techniques, but I will be sharing more as I play round & experiment more!

First, some basics!

Sublimation works by some crazy clever Science that changes the ink in Artesprix’s products into a gas when in contact with heat. That, plus pressure, forces the ink into the ‘blank’ you’re using where it fuses and becomes permanent. It’s really clever stuff!!!

The heat can be from something like a heat press, but I just used a good old fashioned iron and got some really good results! So you absolutely can play with this stuff without owning a big, expensive piece of equipment.

Artesprix has tons of resources to help you get started and when you feel ready, explore more advanced techniques. You can check them out over on YouTube, or they have a Universal Directions document that you can access with this link.

Experimenting with Sublimation & Die Cutting

  1. You will need ordinary printer paper for this to work, so once you’ve chosen your die and blank, trace around the area your die will cover with a pencil. (Pencil won’t transfer at all,.so it’s the safest choice.)
  2. Choose 3-4 Artesprix markers and colour in stripes to cover the pencil marked area. You can do any patterns, but you want to cover as much of the area as you can.
  3. Flip your paper over and position your die against the BACK of your coloured area. Run this through your machine. (You need to cut from behind because your image will end up flipped.)
  4. Secure your die cut to your chosen blank, using heat resistant tape to hold it in place, then pit this inside a sandwich of their heat safe paper. (This will protect your work surface and your heat source from getting any ink transferred onto them.)
  5. Lay your sandwich down onto a thick heat resistant protective mat and hold a hot iron onto the top for around 75-80seconds. Be careful not to move your iron as this could cause the image to shift and give you a blurry result.
  6. Once the time is up, leave to dry completely on top of that heat protection mat and once cool, peel your die cut to reveal your coloured layer!

You could leave it at that, but if you want to add the outline:

  1. Die cut a second time from plain printer paper and on the BACK of this, trace round the edges of the letters with your black marker.
  2. Position this back on top of your coloured layer, securing it with tape again.
  3. Repeat steps 4-6.

Stamping & Colouring

This one didn’t turn out quite as well as the first but I still love it and as it’s a special present for my daughter, I know she will be over the moon with it! ?

  1. Repeat step 1 from the first project.
  2. Choose your favourite Heffy Doodle images and plan your little scene. Stamp each image onto the printer paper using Artesprix’s black ink pad. (Don’t forget you will end up with a mirror image of your design, so if you want to use sentiment stamps you will need to first mirror stamp these using the handy solid stamp which Artesprix sells for this purpose.)
  3. Colour your image and background with your choice of marker colours. (I couldn’t get a shaded look that I was happy with, so I just went for solid colours, but I will definitely be trying this again when I’ve had a little more practice with the markers.)
  4. Repeat steps 4-6.

Please be aware:

As part of my Design Team and Guest Design work I do often receive free products to use, but I only ever recommend products that I genuinely love.

Also, I know how incredibly lucky I am to have these opportunities, but you don’t always NEED the newest products or the ‘full set’.
So please don’t feel that you need everything.
I like to show a variety of brands and products; this way there will be something for everybody to enjoy.
