Better Late Than Never…
Today I’m sharing another of the cards that I made for the June Altenew release. I had an absolute ball making cards for this release, and I made so many that I haven’t had chance to blog them al yetl!! Eeeek!!!
I absolutely LOVE this Reach For The Stars die set and I wanted to make a Galaxy background to go with it.
I’ve got some process photos, just click through the gallery, that show how I went about creating the Galaxy, but it was SUPER easy to do!
Creating A Galaxy…
To start I grabbed a whole bunch of vibrant Crisp Dye Inks and a round spongey ink blending tool for each colour. I just loaded the sponge up really well with ink and splodged it straight onto a panel of 80lb Neenah; literally doing the opposite of everything I tell you to do when ink blending!
I just covered the whole panel in splodges of colour, then left it to dry for a few hours; there really was a LOT of ink on there!! Then once it was dry, I blended some Obsidian Pigment ink over, letting some of that colour peek through, but really building up the black in other places. (I tried Black Soot Oxide first, but I just couldn’t get the depth of black I wanted with that so I switched to Obsidian.)

I left this to dry fully overnight, then I added splatters of Gold, Silver and Blue Metallic watercolour from my Altenew pan set.
The sentiment is a set of two dies, that cut out the whole sentiment in one piece and then it’s shadow too.
I used a purple mirror cardstock for the words and a vellum shadow; this adds a degree of separation from the background which allows the words to shine, but without taking too much away from the background. It’s my favourite way to add my die cut sentiments.
For a little extra embellishment I added some drops of almost clear Nuvo Drops, dotted around the sentiment.
